Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Derperella Gets Into A Fight

A few mornings ago, just before Christmas, the Fud Lady was going out to tend to the chickens as usual. Sometimes the Fud Lady makes some chicken oatmeal; that is, thick oatmeal that has the powdery parts of the chicken feed added to it, to... lure... the ladies into eating this unsavory part of their meal. It was a regular sort of chicken oatmeal morning. The oatmeal is made, and carried out to the coop. Sometimes there is a little song about chickens and oatmeals, and inevitably it is interrupted by rude "BWAAAAA???"s emerging from the coop as they hear the Fud Lady coming. The Fud Lady took the chicken feeders out in order to inspect and fill them. This was normal. Every Chicken huddled at the door, leaning out to peer at the happenings with great interest. This, too, is normal. What was not normal was Derp. Derp stood very tall. Very, very tall. I have fallen in love with you again nambroth..Well told tale....brought feelings of joy to my heart, Maybe Derp is groing up alittle??? She Derp-grumbled in only the way Derp can. And then she pecked Moa, Queen of the Flock, in the head. Every Chicken got very still. Did Derp really just do that? Moa stood up very tall and looked at Derp. One could almost hear her thoughts. "Really?!" Derp stood up even taller. "BRRRRAAAAH" she growled, and pecked Moa in the head again. The Fud Lady just stared. What on earth? Moa got even taller, and like a mother swatting a child for acing unreasonable, gave Derp a peck back. There. That should do it. Honestly, what was with her-- Well, that had done it. The reprimand put Derp over the edge. Every feather stood on end and she popped her umbrella (this is to say, her hackles stood right out!). Derp uttered every curse word that chickens know, and Moa would have none of it. Moa puffed up and "Harumph'd" right at Derp. All of the chickens ran! Ran! Out of the coop, except Moa, Derp, and the Rooster (Bubbles doesn't run anywhere. He gimps). They didn't want to have any part with what was about to go down. Quick as a flash, Derperella was leaping into the air, kickboxing Moa with great ferocity and speed! Moa, who is very rotund and doesn't do anything with speed, threw out her bosom (it is mighty) and started bouncing Derp around. She would have none of this insubordination! Baron Rufflerump (Bubbles) was instantly upset. No, no, no, no! No fighting, ladies! In his handicapped way, he tried to grab the two of them, and put wings out, trying to break it up. Oh, but this riled Derperella right up! Boing, boing! She was pinging around the coop like a tiny raging pinball of a chicken. Moa was blustering about, trying to reign dominance, and poor Bubbles was trying to make it all stop. Finally, Bubbles managed to sit on Derperella gently. All of the other chickens snuck back into the coop to watch. Derp flattened herself, and Moa strode over and gave her one simple peck on the head. Derp submitted, and everyone froze and stared at each other, unblinking, for two whole minutes. Then, as if on cue, they all began milling about and asking for their food, please, Fud Lady. As if nothing had happened!

I think this is the Derpiest Derp story yet!

Oh, what a wonderful and well-told story. I am glad he was able to sit on Derp- no telling what would have happened without the intervention!

That's the only reason I didn't video record the nuttiness with my phone-- I wanted my hands free in case I had to break them up! In my experience, though, it is usually best to let them settle it themselves, if possible, because otherwise they might just go at it again when I am not looking. I only intervene if things get too serious. It was mostly just a lot of growling and bouncing around, and no one was getting hurt.

Yay! a Derpdate, and an excellent one at that! What on earth was Derp thinking, trying to take on Moa? And what a wonderful rooster Bubbles is, to intervene and calm Derp down, despite his difficulties. (Although as you said, he couldn't really get out of the way, so I suppose he had to either act the peacemaker or get caught in the middle of a Derp / Moa battle!)

This is true-- he couldn't exactly run for the hills when the battle started, but he was out of the way. He shuffled right over into the mix to break it up! I've seen him come 'running' before when he thought he had to help the hens, in the past. It's sort of a quick shuffle of a walk.

aaaaiiiieeeee!!!!! WANT WANT WANT WANT DERPY STAMP>>>PLEEEZE

Haha-- okay, let's plan on doing it in time for next Christmas...

Is it possible.... could Derp....be....going broody?????

Oh heavens, no-- thank goodness! She does that every summer (invisible babies anyone?) and it's the worst thing ever to break her of it! She was just being a weirdo this time.

I beg to differ nambroth, Dery is being...well...DERP! :love :yesss:

Wow just finished reading the entire thread! Very aderpable. Amazing the emotional ups and downs through this entire thread!
I have a strange faverolle as well. Not derpy, moreso paranoid for some reason. I got her when I got my brahmas by mistake. So now I have 3 brahmas, Henrietta, Scarlet, and Deco, and my Faverolle, Cinders. All 4 are 3 months old, and guess who is on top of the pecking order? Why Cinders is of course! Its pretty funny to see her putting Henrietta and Scarlet in their places as they are already a good deal bigger. Deco on the other hand is a bit of a runt, and seems to be Cinders' wingman.

Yesterday I saw Henrietta make a grab for power by flying at Cinders head from behind, Cinders would have none of it and raised herself up to her full height, which is only up to Henrietta's throat and gave her the evil eye. Now apparently there is something about this evil eye because Henrietta backed down and suddenly things were normal again. I must learn this evil eye and put it to use in future...... But for now Cinders is back to being her funny looking self.

Oh my, we never know what to expect from the mysterious mind of Derp. I am glad that Baron Rufflerump was able to kerplunk-a-puff his fluffy expanse upon the ricocheting Derp. Order was restored.
But we will stay tuned for however long to find out what whim passes through Derp's inexplicable brain next. It is sure to provide another entertaining story.

Bubbles is an absolute gentleman of a rooster! He worries so much about his girls, and forgets about his own problems when he has to help them out. If only I could find a rooster like that. The three I've had (from day-old chicks) all turned out to be sex-crazed, aggressive, pullet-ravishing psychopaths!

What breeds are they?? Despite my health problems with my cochin boys, I think I shall always like a cochin or brahma roo forevermore...!! I'm sold on them.

I have a Buff Brahma named Midas. He is the sweetest fluffy butt ever, my three year old can feed him from his hand! I LOVE Brahmas!
