Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Love the poem. Now you can set it to music and serenade the flock. I'm not the only one who sings to my animals, right? Well maybe I am. I fortunately do not live within earshot of any neighbors, so I can act like a complete kook with my birds if I want to.

PS In "Stella's Club," thread is a very good video done by The Sheriff, of her massaging and warming chicks that arrived (shipped) looking very much DOA. Every one with chickens should see this. I felt it should be posted in the emergencies section also.

Can you share a link to the post? Or even ask The Sheriff to post it in the emergencies section... people may need to see it if they have a similar experience!

Yes, please a link, because their is over 400 pages in that thread, and I really don't want to look through that many pages for a video.

I posted a very long (24 minute) video of the chick resuscitation on my blog yesterday. I'll post a link to it here but wouldn't blame a soul for not watching it. It might come in handy for someone searching how to save a chick so it will be here if needed. Both babies are running around like nothing ever happened.
Is this the one, drumstick diva? (Sorry if the video doesn't show up. It didn't on my computer, but I think it's because everything's out of date on this computer. The little green arrow should link to the post, though.)

Great poem!

I think I have a problem... only I think I know the reason behind it... Florus, my beautiful boy...

So, last night, I cooked up a back of stuffing that I didn't quite like from Thanksgiving. I took it out to the birds just before they went to roost so they'd have an ice warm mash of num nums to carry them through the night... Oh... how bad a mistake this was... So bad...

I went out early in the afternoon to shovel, and bring left over chopped up french toast to the birds. Oh, boy they were happy birds with that. AND now the bad part... Florus, my beautiful Florus has been injured. He's be defaced. Shaved. Plucked. De-bearded! Yes! That big black beautiful beard is GONE! Over night! IT IS GONE! Those capital "brats" plucked him clean!

I am guessing he was a sloppy eater of the great and powerful stuffing. I am thinking, he was saving tidbits in his beard for later snacks. I am thinking, those evil faverolles girls took it into their pea brained heads to "help" him clean up... My poor beautiful Florus...

I think they were just getting even for his beginning days of teen ager love, before he became a good rooster... who gave them treats first... built their nest... when they were first penned together and he made their first weeks hello....

That's a womans scorn for you. Or spite for you... yup.

Aww, poor Derp! Her beard get's picked out quite a lot, doesn't it?

I have a question for you Faverolle owners. When do they usually begin to lay? My mini-derp is now 38 weeks old, and still looks very young.

Here she is with a VERY derpy expression :D

Nova aman You're a member of Stella's Social Club aren't you? Would you know how to paste a link here, for Sheriff Mary's chick warming up video. It's on her Buckandrunranch blog also but, I just went and it doesn't recognize me as a registered person anymore. Duh?
