Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Trousers IS huge, but he's a gentle giant. I am so thankful to have him. I don't think I'll ever (intentionally) have a different breed of roo again, I am very sold on the demeanor of cochins!

Here are a mess of videos for you. Well, okay, only 4, but it was a trial to take and get them uploaded!

Trousers enjoys some attention, and Derp joins him. Sadly I didn't get my phone out fast enough to record Derp tenderly preening the feathers around Trouser's face, but I did catch them cuddled in drowsily.
Note how tolerant he is of me petting him. This roo was raised by a broody, and I didn't even get him until he was older. No person babied him as a chick or teen, but he's this friendly! In contrast, the other two boys I've had would go pretty nuts if I didn't keep after them with gentle handling.

The next two videos are taken from two perspectives, in succession. All through November, December, January, Feb.... the chickens have been molting and the dark days combined have meant very little laying. I was lucky to get one or two eggs a week! Only Chickadee was laying for a while. I don't supplement with light because I like to give their bodies a natural wind-down during the winter; I'd like my girls to be around for as long as possible!
Then, all of a sudden last week... Everyone is feeling the extra daylight of the longer days! Suddenly everyone was wanting to lay. Here's bunch of nonsense all over who was allowed to sit in each box.

The view from inside. Please forgive the mess, I can't seem to get the walls clean unless the air temperature is above freezing! The water I use to scrub just freezes to the walls and makes it worse.
Trousers is politely monitoring the situation.

BEWARE! THIS IS LOUD! MIND YOUR SPEAKERS!!!
Someone asked earlier if I had a video of Trousers crowing.
Well, yesterday I went out to take care of the chickens in the morning, and Trousers was still on the roost, looking at me quietly. I asked him why he didn't crow, and he just looked at me. "Well, crow!" I told him, jokingly.
And by golly, he did!! I only got the second two recorded. This sounds much louder than it is because he is in a small enclosed area. Trust me, he is much much lower volume than the other two roosters I've had!!
By the way, this was the only time he crowed yesterday. Some days he doesn't even crow at all. It's lovely!

Trousers is the Bruce Springsteen of roosters - gravelly and melodic at the same time! And good eye candy, too!

My gosh the Fudguy is under attack, look how they mob him. I would be getting a panic attack - I forsee a new movie coming out "The Chickens," with background of chicken shreiks worse than the Hitchcock movie (The BIrds.) Be afraid, be very afraid,,,,,,,

Ah Coho... The Fair Lady. She does so much love to walk around and scream until someone cares enough to pick her up and cuddle her.
Faverolles are so wonderful. But there is the whining, whining, whining! My two complain all the live long day.

Ah, there. At last. The Fud Guy has allowed Coho onto his lap (with her wet muddy feet..) for some nice snuggles. Now she shall only scream a little bit.
The Bar Codes, Moa and Chickadee, look on... the Fud guy, well, look! He has the treat bucket. Inside of that are things they want... very much.
Trousers watches to make sure all is well.

One morning, the Fud Lady picked Trousers up and set him on one of the outdoor perches. He's too clumsy and big to get up there by himself! He surveyed the area, and soon enough up bounced Coho! Screaming and whining... why wasn't the Fud Lady petting her? Right now? All the time?
Coho discovered that Trousers was available and cuddled up against his side, after nibbling a few of his lovely hackle feathers. He was a nice fellow, and very fluffy. Good for burying against.
So, the Fud Lady pet them both. And it was well.
Then Derperella noticed that there was attention being distributed. She wanted some! So, poing! Up she hopped onto the perch.
Then she noticed Coho, and boy was she ever mad at Coho. No one really knows why, because Coho is the wimpiest chicken ever and has never pecked Derp. Coho shoved her head under the rooster, in fear, as Derp started growling and pecking at Coho.
Swiftly, the Fud lady intervened. Shoving a gloved hand under Derperella, she pet her keel gently, and as suddenly as it started, Derp's violence melted from her and bwump, down she sat on the Fud Lady's hand. She dozed and peace was restored, for at least 3 minutes.

I like how Coho is looking at Derperella, as if to say, "Is she gonna start pecking me again? That chick is craaaazy."

(Videos are still uploading....)

Okay, on the second pic I think I can tell Chickadee and Moa apart! Is Chickadee on the left?

Ohhhh, so happy to see Derperella is doing well! I have a Giant Cochin rooster myself, Mister Pants is his name.

I had a friend give me some Faverolle eggs to hatch, I set them the day before yesterday, I am so excited about them!
