Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

I agree completely with carikermoon's Son! Everyone IS a little Derpy sometimes!

I love Derp's full name and think that it would be a shame to not share everything about her in your book (which I will totally buy, put me on the list!)
In my household we sometimes ask if we are haveing a 'Derp moment', or if we screw up or forget something 'Derpa Derp'. It is playful and never malicious.
Please don't alter a thing about our beloved Derparella

It is interesting... The name Cinderella is associated with the grace and beauty of a princess, but she got that name because she had to sweep ashes from the fire places. The origins of her name do not inspire respect from the status conscious. Despite her situation she does not become mean or bitter. She is admired by singing mice and the prince alike for her true beauty and character. Yes, I grew up with the animated version of "Cinderella" in which the mice sang, ♪Cinderelly, Cinderelly...♪

Likewise, we associate Derperella with goofy wonder and whimsy. Those who merely label may not fully appreciate her. But we know her story, and we love her distinct and fascinated view of the world.

So even if Derp could be used as a put down by some, we see through that and admire Derperella for her true character. What could be an insult is sort of turned on its head.

Maybe the moral of the story is we can all embrace our Derpy moments with a laugh and keep going 'round the rooster.

I'm so so very sorry to learn about Princess. My thoughts are with you!

Wow! I never would have thought that Derp's story would have helped anyone or caused such feelings. I'm really touched that sharing it with you has brought you such things.
I'm sorry the old photos are gone... it is sad, I still have them saved to my computer but have no way to put them back into the posts. Perhaps once I get some down time next year from the Duck Stamp (it literally has me working all day every day!!) I need to put together a book about Derperella.

This actually brings me to something I wanted to ask you guys about.

When I named Derperella, I took the word "Derp" which I understood to mean "goofy and silly" in a cartoon character sort of way, and combined it with the name "Cinderella" because she is a princess to us! I have been informed however that the word Derp CAN be considered a slur and is sometimes used to put down people with disabilities. Since that was never my intention, I have been calling her " 'Relly" on social media ( 'relly is a nickname we have for her). If I were to make an actual book I have been really torn over using her full name. I read over and over here on the forum that people share Derp's story with their children, and not only do I NOT want them to learn a slur but I also don't want them to get the impression that any of this is done to mock disability. Thoughts?

Nambroth, Im 16 and I can assure you facebook is covered with comic strips involving a character called 'Derp', its just something in modern society on the internet, if you type derp cartoons on google images you will see (although they do contain rude language in some). the word isn't offensive in anyway, I would use it as its derps name, I doubt anyone will find it on offensive as there are much worse things out there, and kids will find out the word derp anyway, and the fact this is used in an endearing way means everyone will think its fine
