I have to share a quick story that is relateable, I'm sure, to Derp. I have a group of 6 juvenile birds. One is the oldest, she is around 11 or so weeks old and she is a white frizzled cochin named Cora. (See pic below)

Cora "adopted" a group of 5 chicks half her age. Again, see pic:

Of these, there is one who has many "Derp-like" qualities. His/her name is Snippet. Snippet is a polish, the very same one you see peeking out of Cora's armpit in the above pic. (a sense of smell was never Snippet's strong suit) Snippet has grown mightily and looks like a miniature adult now. See pic below:

Today I noticed, not for the first time, that Snippet is, again, Derp-like in his/her own right. Snippet likes to collect worms and bugs while out "free ranging" in the backyard. However, instead of a Derpy gallop playing "keep away" with said morsel, Snippet tiptoes around holding the treat and chirping around it. Snippet's version of "keep away" is a gentle but fairly quick shuffle while walking blindly into objects because of the super-cool hairdo that inhibits his/her vision. Snippet has not yet discovered that if he/she would simply GALLOP around while gobbling the treat, he or she would actually get to consume it...rather, Snippet's leisurely stroll with a mouthful earns him/her a robbing by much faster and less "derpy" chicks.

I think Snippet and Derp are cousins.

ETA: another Derpy quality...notice the disdainful stare Snippet is receiving from Duchess the cochin in the last pic? Snippet gets stared at. A LOT.

Oh my!! Hahah!! Snippet is SO cute. I love how she looks. We have about a billion hawks and predators, so I'd be scared to have Snippet around, but I do love to see her photo! You could have a thread called "The Adventures of Snippet"... just follow her around with a camera!

Thanks! I find myself so enamored with Derperella that I seem to be looking for Derpy qualities in my own birds, lol.

Snippet is a riot...but yes, he/she would be easy pickins' for a hawk. Besides the visual impairments, Snippet isn't the brightest...

Derperella is so adorable! And her adventures are funny..I can't wait for the next installment.
She kind of reminds me of my hatchery Delaware, Nelly. I kind of saved her from imminent doom when she was a chick because she had poopy butt. But as she grew I knew she was different. She'd stare at something, anything, for minutes at a time. She wasn't picked on; in fact, the others walked around her or ran around her - she wouldn't bat an eye. She got out of the run once, and ran straight into my bird-killing dog. She just stared down that dog and the dog didn't do anything. Nelly was the bravest chicken I knew (I say "was" only because I had to sell all my chickens).

I'm lovin' Derperella, though!!

Here are some Derperella "Glamor" photos I took just for things like postcards! None of these are staged... this is all 'normal' Derp....

In most of these photos she was actually inspecting our grill. She was fascinated by it and loved to stare at it.

I will have some more photos for you with actual story soon. I have them in my camera but just need to find time to get them here, to you!
Hope this tide you over for now.

And... of course... her sitting on the back of her most favorite plastic chair. By herself.

Here is the shop I opened for Derp shirts and stuff. A few things to note:
- I only provide the images... Zazzle does the printing and shipping. If you do order and there is a problem, be sure to let Zazzle know!
- I only make a few dollars (on the postcards and buttons, only a few cents!) on this stuff. Most of the cost is the base price. I'm really not trying to profit, this is mostly for fun and for you guys, and any money that comes from this will go directly to the care of Derp and the other chickens. I have been saving my pennies to get a blood panel run on Derp to see if she has any deficiencies.
- Some products, such as the shirts, mug... have different options in terms of colors, etc!
- If you don't see what you want, ask! I might be able to make it.

Also, I just got an email from Zazzle... now through the 23rd, if you use the code GIFTERDEAL25 you'll get 25% off. Not too shabby, and good timing!

More Derp stories soon!!

The Christmas ornament is really neat.

Just so everyone else knows too. When you click the link it goes to the main zazzle page. I had to type featherdust into the search area to find all you have available.
