Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Pics
Hi Nambroth!

I put you on my watch list years ago on DeviantArt, and then I accidentally ran across you again on the Windstone site, and now chickens! You're EVERYWHERE! lol I have really enjoyed your stories about Derp. I've even been sending them to my husband to read at work and he enjoys them too (maybe he'll understand my chicken obsession one day!) I look forward to the continuation of Derp's adventures in special-land.

Oh no no I can't breed Derp. She has a lot of problems, and I don't know if they are genetic or not... it would be very irresponsible for me to pass those on to other poor chicks! Remember, that Derp had a failure to thrive and nearly died many times. I don't know if her momma had problems, or deficiencies, or if there are bad genetics happening here.

I mentioned it on the other thread, but Derperella came from Meyer hatchery. It appears that their new 'standard' for Salmon Faverolles is Derp-colored! Which is wrong, of course, for Salmon Faverolles, but you know how it goes at a hatchery sometimes.
Coho also came from Meyer, same hatch date, but she is much closer to what a SF should look like.

I sadly think it's genetic. I got a salmon faverolle pullet on halloween who now looks and acts exactly like derp. once i get pics i'll show you.

I was afraid of that... it's why I don't want to breed her. Did yours come from Meyer?

yep. She enjoys getting lost and was missing all night during a snowstorm, was temporarily a house chicken due to an injury, and has cheek floofs that are always in her eyes. the other one we got looks just like your Coho. Creepy isn't it?

That is interesting!! I'm so glad she made it through the snowstorm, what a nightmare! I look forward to seeing your photos Derp's extended 'family'!!

I am doing okay and so is Derp! We had our first real snowfall and Derp was the only one that wasn't afraid of the snow. I wish I had photos but my sister is currently borrowing my camera lens while she's visiting.

Derp's sister, Coho, hasn't been doing her best. If you have any ideas of ways to help, I have a thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=8127864#p8127864

Hope
everyone is having a great holiday, and has a happy New Year!

Are you anywhere near Jamestown, NY? We're from there originally (grew up and finished high school there) and were visiting family at Christmas, when it snowed on our last day there. What a ride back to NJ it was! and since then, they've had LOTS of snow we hear! Hope little Derp is handling all that snow without any problems. Bet she wondered what that was!

I am indeed and I have family in Jamestown. Some of my art will be shown in Jamestown in Feb-March this year. :)
