guess who just read the entire thread? I'm hooked on derp. I've spent the last couple of hours derpily staring at the computer screen and getting weird looks when I would randomly burst out laughing.
Oh no! I was gone all weekend and when I got home last night, Derp's beard was missing. I've never seen any of the other hens pull her feathers, but surely that's what had to have happened! I don't know who did it. Poor Derp! Now she looks very silly, indeed!
I had a little hen who also looked something like Derp have that happen to her. She was paralyzed and so could not groom herself. When I would feed her sometimes the food, if wet, would stick to her face feathers. I learned the hard way that the others would pull her face feathers out as they went for the collected food. After that I had to make sure others could not get to her. Her face feathers were so cute and after that they did grow back but I missed her fuzzy face in the meantime.
Does Derp dribble her food when she eats???
Oh Derp, we love you with or without your feathery beard. Perhaps the hens are a bit restless as they adjust to the coop without a rooster.
