Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

They are adorable! Congrats! So, what are you going to do with Lorp? Are you keeping her?

Dust-bathing on a carpet, hehehe.

Fud lady they are adorable, especially the redhead. Hmm. dust bathing on carpeting = could it be another derp.??

Funny you ask-- but all 8 of my chicks last year 'carpet bathed' like this. Doesn't everyone's?

Yeah, we do love her and she is good except for the feather-attacks. She hasn't even tried since we put the peepers on her, I think they will mellow her down a bit.

Today Coho, Derp's "sister", went broody! Oh boy!! (facepalm)

Derp is doing okay! I let the girls out every night for free ranging. Derp is growing back her head feathers, slooo--ooowly. She is missing her entire beard and muffs, thanks to Lorp. For some reason, Lorp decided that she was going to go out of her way to cause all the other chickens grief (except Moa, who is Boss Hen). Lorp has always been a diva and a bit full of herself, but this was too much. We got her a set of pinless peepers and now everything is calm again.

I brought home two new chicks to replace the ones I lost last year (RIP Loaf, the cochin... and fare thee well in your new home Gullin, the Rooster). They are Easter Eggers.. I love the beard and muffs, but I know now that more faverolles in my mixed flock might not be happy. I found someone locally that ordered a bunch of them from Cackle and she let me buy two.
Here's a little video clip of one of them having its first 'dust bath' on the carpet at 6 days old.

I'm sorry I haven't had any updates. I like to wait until I have some photos of Derperella to share, and I have been so busy it's hard to find time to breathe. I have several big shows coming up, and one is this weekend as part of an open studio tour. I am really nervous! I paid a lot to get in and show my art and jewelry. Lets hope it goes well!
Good luck Fud Lady with your show! It is a shame Derp doesn't pay so well. Derp earings, anyone?

I call my australorp Cha-Cha (Chachie) Lorp sometimes. She just ignores me and goes back to eating her dirt.

Its like when I try to explain to Abigail, the EE hen that she is part zebra, part chicken and part antelope. She still doesn't believe me. My awkward hen Molly (luv her) was eating the bushes near the driveway when I was playing baseball with my brother last night. She looked up and saw me like "Why are you here?" then ran across and pecked my feet until I gave her attention. She is slightly derpy!
