Hi and greetings from the South Side of Des Moines, IA. Last Saturday, I was finally in a position where I could pick up five chicks from a neighbor down the street. Right away, they figured out where the gaps were in the fence and 2 are gone forever. Did the neighbors cat get them? Not sure, but the next day, there was a hawk flying through the area. Apparently its nest was not far away. Come to think about it, there are less squirrels around. Anyways, I stretched some extra chicken wire over the top of their enclosure and the 3 remaining are living life good. They even look a little bigger than the week before, so they must be eating. Knowing more about computers than chickens, I added a section to my web site with pictures and all. See me at http://mcgillan.us. Thanks, Patrick

Chicken wire only keeps chickens in, it does NOT keep predators out. You might check out the section on predators as well as coop / run building.

:welcome and good luck with your poultry adventure! :frow Sorry about your loss. :( Hope it goes better for you. Hopefully the forum on building materials will give you some ideas on making your birds more safe.
