I am about to start selling different breeds of chickens and eggs. I am wondering what is the best way to build this,....... I was thinking maybe a design like at a the pound where you have several different long pens with dividers in between , would my roosters try and fight between the chicken wire dividers? I learned the hard way , which should have been common sense, but I put a bunch of different breeds in a coop with one americana rooster and came out with some half breed crazy looking chickens especially the polish. WOW

yes roosters will fight between the wire but I do the same thing sell egss and chicks. my setup I let all my hens free range or all of them in one pen and have the roosters in like a 3x3 cage and I put the hen in wioth him for a little then when hes done I put her in a cage till she lays her eggs take the eggs and let her run of with the other hens.

Are you planning to let your chickens free range out of the pens, or will they stay permanently in their pens?My son and I both raise rare breed chickens and sell them. If you want to keep your bloodlines pure, your idea will work with the wire between each breed. We attached a 12" wide piece of vinyl siding to each divider wall at the proper level, so the roos can't see each other..so they don't fight. Simple, but effective.

Constructing pens is hard work...I have been working on mine for 6 months! If you would like to see if you can get any ideas that might be helpful to you, please feel free to visit my construction blog page sunshineseramas.com

Good luck!

ladydoc love the blog and what a great idea. I am in the planning stage of a new building also.

I need to do this, too, the cheapest way possible! I've got about 10 breeds and variations on the way. Want to have them separated by breed, and by color variations of the breed. Plus, two tall runs for the Phoenix and Sumatras. I think I'll need to pick my favorite breeds of them, and have a great big chicken sale! I go a little nuts sometimes.

I'm doing the same thing. I have my chickens in a seperate coop and run and now I have EE & OE's, Silkies, & now I'm hatching Ameraucana(hopefull) to sell. Now I'm turning my big shed into 5-6 coops and runs. I plan on selling the eggs and chicks. Both hatching and eating eggs.
