Desperately Looking for Help!!

Maybe offer some olive oil - might help lube the chick up. Olive oil will not hurt the chick, some chickens love olive oil enough to drink it when offered.

Also is it drinking enough?

You are feeding chick starter, correct? I too would suggest applying olive oil around the vent area when you next do your cleaning; as well as offering it with food or water.

McDuff is drinking and eating a little bit. I am feeding Purina Start and Grow Medicated...fresh food and water at all times.

I know it sounds gross and maybe I'm doing more harm than good. I usually take a small Q-tip and swap some of the stuff out so help alleviate some of the pressure/blocking.

S/He does chirp a lot and tends to be quiet when I hold him and he snuggles under my chin or near my shoulder. When I put him on the counter to observe him (on newspaper), he just walks back over to my hand and tries to climb up my arm back to his "spot".

I just don't understand if I can see the poo at in the vent opening, why it can't get out?

Just a thought..is this the only chick you have? Chicks get very lonely, so maybe if you had a few more it would also help. The olive oil works great, so does the ACV in the water. Plain yogurt works wonders to for the digestive track GOOD LUCK

Try mixing a small amount of yogurt with some of the starter. I use corn syrup on kittens when they have a problem.

Our dog is 13 yo and the vet has us use Benafiber in a spoonful of canned food to help keep her cleaned out otherwise she can become impacted.

Good luck with your babe...know how you feel I have some 6 day old chicks who climb onto my palm for me to hold them close and talk to them while they very quietly peep.

It`s a fact. Mollasses is a natural laxative for birds. Mix it like weak tea and dip the beak a few times to get it started. Leave the mixture in place of drinking water for a day.........Pop

THANK YOU ALL!!! I will try the molassas or the apple cider vinegar in the water and see what that does. I will also add a tiny bit of yogurt in the food.

Should I also "help" by clearing out some of the poo with Q-tips?

Honestly, I do not know if you should - you did watch the vet and I probably would - I know sounds confusing.

Is the poo hard/crusty when you "help" or is it soft/mushy?

Is it in with other chicks?

Oh my goodness this sounds just like my little chick Lucy! Her little vent is clear but any time she tries to poop it's like nothing happens---she strains & strains & you can see the little vent open up & poo there (or sometimes the poo just starts to come out but won't keep coming), but it doesn't come out. She cheeps madly every time & it breaks my heart. We've been trying the Olive Oil thing for a week now and it's not getting better. I think I'm going to try the yogurt today (and maybe the molasses? does anybody know--can I do that? can I do both or should I only do one or the other?) and I'm praying that will help. Please keep us updated on your little guy, what you try, what success you have, etc. Good luck! (Who would have ever thought we were WANTING a chicken to poo instead of complaining about how that's all they do?!)

Being able to see the poop is not necessarily a positive sign. My young guinea pig that we had to put down had a poop pellet sticking out its rear when we took it to the vet, and that was when the vet said the best thing for the guinea pig was to put it down to save it pain, and that nothing could be done to actually correct the problem.
I'm sorry things are not easier
