We did refuse to answer a lot. It's none of their business how much I make a year or how healthy my mother-in-law is.

They usually don't stick around long enough to watch me dial 911. The 1911 in an OWB holster generally serves as ample motivation to leave.

I posted Trespassing signs. When I answer my door, anyone I don't know is invited to leave. Anyone that proceeds to run their mouth is invited to watch me dial 911! They usually leave in high gear!

things are looking great here every day....day 14 and the 1/2 way point with happy healthy birds!

i can't thank you all enough for everything you've done

i'll shoot some more videos later today or tomorrow ( i have a little cleaning to do first

) ...

while i appreciate everyone trying to ease my guilt, i think you'd all feel somewhat guilty as well --- i didn't search out the legalities and the restrictions like i should have before purchasing the eggs --- like i said before, my birds tested clean before i brought them here in january and i hoped for the best by ONLY ordering eggs --- i'd twitch whenever i got an egg with some'dirt' still on it (i almost always wash my eggs before incubating, but it still made me uncomfortable....)... in the back of my mind, i knew i should have been filling out paperwork --- i HATE paperwork....i really wish everybody the best here (you too, chicken vet)... wouldn't be what it is right now without all of you

...

the links have been great for info and seeing the other side as well...

i don't know if i mentioned it or not, but i received a very nice letter from the governor's office basically saying as long as i follow the qt like i've been, everything should be fine
big_smile.png

and thank you for the ovations! --- can i trade them in for cash?? lol
Congratulations John! The people have spoken... and your Governor listened it seems. I'm just so happy for you! The cash thing might be like some coupons though 1/20th of a cent. I like that you are able to let bygones be just that, bygones! Kudos!

WHY did I join NPIP ??? WHY ?????????????????
I don't know - but since you're selling eggs you might be in a lot more trouble for NOT being NPIP - who knows? I'm just hobby with 4 little hens but seems people who expand to selling eggs/chicks/adults get into more trouble than their customers. Sometimes life sucks for the small entrepeneur. Years ago in the '70s we tried a small business (not livestock) and the Calif Franchise Tax Board sucked the life blood out of us - tax consultation and prepararion, quarterly reports and payments to mail in 4x/yr, and penalties if you estimated too low or too high (how do you estimate what your income is going to be for the year if you're just starting out? - absolute stupidity!) - IRS back then actually was better to work with than the State was.

We live in high-crime Los Angeles County outskirts so we don't answer random knocks on the door. After the block wall and iron fence goes completely around the property they'll have to climb 6 feet to get into our yard to knock or ring the bell! Even now if someone we know wants to come by they know to call first - most will call again when they're at the front door LOL. No, we're not lunatics because after the Richard Ramirez serial murder scare in the '80s we don't leave the windows open overnight anymore either. I figure if someone is rude enough to stop by unannounced they deserve rudeness in return.

We just had that mid census census last week. They actually came to the house because we ignored the letters. My wife all but kicked her off the property. The questions are very invasive. They said they needed the information for demographics. I call BS. You know, at some point down the line, that it is all about taxes
Was it the US Census, or the Dept Of AG Census ?
The Ag one is a 5-6 page affair that wants to know everything about your 'farm',,,,like how many acres in each crop, or crp, how many irrigated, how many pork, sows, lambs, cattle, etc...it never asked about people, cats or dogs !
I threw it away, a few weeks later another arrived with the message that it was the law to answer...
So I lazily wrote: THIS IS OUR HOME AND WE ARE NOT A FARM !
How did they know we were a farm ?
Did they spy on my e-mail address ?????????????????????????????????????????????

I can see now how the feds can make a list of who has what where, and if there is a break out of any influenza, Bovine Anthrax, or Equine Encephalo....the feds know who has what and can act accordingly for that area of the country.
In a way, they are protecting us all...but it leaves the nasty taste in my mouth of Big Brother,,,as if we are all children who need to be constantly watched...but thankfully this is not Russia........or China.................Our government is looking out for the general public....given what I know about this extremely virulent disease, I'd say it is going to hang around in this country's water ways & water fowl forever, just like in China.
I see no way it will just stop, if it can live indefintely in moist or wet or frozen conditions.

It is dry here now: So we are safe,
But the river across the street may house mega billions of the virus.
Just an example of what I am thinking that may happen in the future.........wish we could predict more ?
Anyone have any info on what we are to expect in the future near or distant ?

I had no tresspassing signs I hand painted, on a half a sheet of plywood, with 12" letters at the base of my driveway.
One day a cop car can ripping up the driveway & stopped & presented me with a letter containing a BILL for the uniform trousers my female Labrador supposedly attacked & ripped when the officer walked up to my door & knocked one day..................
I asked him how the heck that happened when no one has permission to go on my land, sign is posted, and no officer IS ABOVE THE LAW .unless he is called, he had no permission, and my female Lab & her 8 puppies on my front porch did not like any strangers.....LOL
Good Dog ! Darn good dog !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cop left, and I never saw him again.

This was in Idaho, not Washington.

I think the Census you speak of is the Federal Public Census...but the one I am speaking of is/was from the Dept of Ag, and asked no questions about us humans at all....just acres, animals, plants: how many acres in what crop, how many of what animals, and what sex are they ? How many pork under 1 yr, how many breeding heiffers ? ETC......
It was not the HUMAN Census we have gotten our entire lives.
This Ag one asked everything from IF we sell eggs, to How many peach trees do we have ??

I did the same thing in Calif, not poultry, but ended up filing quarterly, etc etc etc
NPIP is doing a great job, but in some states, maybe a bit too much, as in John's case, a perfect example.
I can see Severely infected states like Minnesota , Iowa, maybe South Dakota...their officials there may be at the stage that they are taking no prisoners....they are looking FORWARD to see where the next outbreak MAY HAPPEN.......................which is intelligent !
BUT, if the birds tested Negative, then they need to step back & watch, isolate (no coming & no going) of the suspects' fowl...and watch.
I disagree totally with them killing any fowl distant from someone that later tested positive.

Speaking of positive: Does anyone have any info on the Quail egg facility (where John got shipped quail eggs from ) ?? Did THEY kill all fowl on their premises ? Any news reports ?
