.. while i'm currently able to sell birds and eggs within the state of VA, i'm not .... i have two friends that i've given birds to before ALL OF THIS, and this past weekend i have given them the polish and some silkies that i hatched right before QT ... gonna hold off for now on starting w/ other breeds and i'll still get to visit the polish
wink.png
... i'm AI clean, and i plan on becoming npip this fall or winter, so i can sell eggs w/ confidence...if i should order ANY eggs in the future, they're getting a room of their own ( i'll probably remove and wash the eggs BEFORE i get them home, and discard the boxes and packing in a tightly sealed garbage bag and drop it off at a local dumpster) --- and yes, i'm serious but laughing at myself as well...

i get goosebumps (HAH) when i think about what almost was and just how fortunate i am...
Oh best wishes for you !!!

And you have been a lesson to us all !

I am so thankful you did come forward & post your journey !!

Well, so glad it turned out for you Johnskoi... I having been checking on how things were going and decide to "finish" reading the thread while the grandkids watched Winnie the Pooh movie during some off and on showers here.... I am in Ga. and have never been more grateful that there is no pond on my property... and only see migrating geese pass through, although they do drop in on some farm fields where there are small ponds for a couple days.... but we do have local farmers who use chicken manure on their hay and soybean, and corn cropland, and it isn't treated or else we wouldn't get a zillion flies when they used to drop it across the street in a big pile... finally I think enough people complained that the old guy spread it right away instead of incubating the flies.... I only have Waterfowl, all from Holderreads only. Some on the critical/rare list. But after seeing your birds, I am soooo tempted to get a few peafowl... I have shown some and fear we will not be able to this year and right after I renewed my Poultry Press..... and I had hatched some in anticipation of selling this year and wonder now ...how many I can practically keep... I have had some sales 'fall thru' from fear of bird flu and many may be 'sitting tight'. I have always practiced Bio-security reasonably. I have 'barn boots" , and always wash my hands after handling birds and after coming in.. Being Ga. , with "air you can wear" in summer.. often I jump in the pool or shower every time I come in when it is hot... my 'shopping shoes' and 'yard shoes' are separated ... and I don't let anyone come here to purchase birds , I always meet them at a show or a parking lot of a large box store and exchange.
and Phew, I almost bought eggs this year.... and had sold some last year... and was going to get some 'exotics' , but held off also....
I just wonder what this will do to Fairs and Shows... I am not Npip, and didn't really want to mess with it (since I only have waterfowl and they say they can get false positives a lot of the time)... but I do get tested when I show, so I figure that takes care of it ... about 10% of my flock gets tested anyway. ... I hate to see the rare birds be endangered... and that is why there are hobbyist scattered around... so the whole breed doesn't get wiped out...
As far as tracing...gee, anybody who has ever advertised or been in an on line group....If there was a serious outbreak and it was jumping into a virulent form ... your IP address could be easily gotten .... it is not like we have Privacy anymore.... but what is a shame is bureaucrats just 'following orders'. I knew of a case in Egypt , where lady raised Parrots in a covered garden and when one wild bird turned up with Bird flu some years ago, they were going house to house destroying everything. But hers were in an inner courtyard covered and she wouldn't let them in.... hers survived....

what NICE memories you just brought back

if i had birds on the critical list, i would definitely hold off on bringing ANYTHING new in until a full 13 months passed without another outbreak-- my thinking is a full year (for temp 'activated' viruses) + 1 month for seasonal discrepancies...FALSE positives -- what a scary concept....but i wonder if there are false negatives as well??
i'm even thinking if i order any eggs, i may have my son (3hrs away) hatch them (just because he doesn't have enough to do
hide.gif
) or at least start them until i confirm they're clean...for your own sake, i'm glad you held off --- the constant wonder (yeah, it's still kind of there even tho they tested clean) sucks... and i also wonder how many people didn't report die offs and are furthering this outbreak....(paranoid,much??)

wow! a lady in egypt has more rights than us!!! not a common thought.... bottom line here is if you don't let them in, they come back with a sheriff....honestly, if my birds were positive, they'd all have been put down -- and as hard as it would be, i'd be a part of it to make their last moments as peaceful as i could -- thank God (yes, a capital G
wink.png
) that wasn't how it ended up --- while i don't pray much ( i do for people ) and didn't pray for help on this, i do feel truly blessed

if i thin my sebbies out some, i may be knocking on your door for eggs to be sent to my son come spring... he's 31 and NEVER took a bird from me all these years no matter how hard i tried .. lol... he was visiting right before this whole mess and he held the sebbie as it was hatching...it was sooo cool seeing him snuggle with 'his baby'... he adopted that one and another for company
celebrate.gif
.. he 'gets it' a little better now...

... and i was never a GOOD debater in HS -- i defended both sides lol

You can't have a son that old-
wink.png
lol I think you had a lot of people praying for you and the birds. (I know I was.) My sister has been raising chickens for at least 6-7 years. My nephew (who is only a year or two younger than your son) who has been living there with his family and helping with the chickens here and there has just now caught the "fever"...lol I don't understand how it took him that long and it wasn't till after he was down here looking at my flock....lol
