Hello, all,

I'm looking for a tool to help select possible breeds/varieties to get in the future. The My Pet Chicken one is is the selector tool that's the most detailed I've found so far, but it still lacks in criteria that I want.

Details that are important to me:
  • comb type/cold hardiness
  • feathered/unfeathered feet
  • leg color
  • frequency of broodiness
If there's not a tool for this available, is there an Excel list of breeds/varieties with this level of detail out there? I've found some charts and such, but they either feature only a small selection of breeds or are not easily searchable. The lack of information on feathered feet specifically drives me bonkers.

Thanks for helping.

Are you looking for physical characteristics or traits such as hardiness?

What feather footed information are you looking for?
What I want is a physical characteristic like comb type/size, but how I've seen that translated into these tools is as "cold hardy = small combs, large combs = not cold hardy."

For feathered feet, I'm looking for which breeds do NOT have feathered feet. My area is quite rainy/muddy, so I don't want to consider the feather footed breeds. Since this information isn't obvious in the selector tools or comparison charts, I've fallen in love with Faverolles and Brahmas. Only to later discover that they both have feathered feet! :barnie

I have a huge big chart of all recognized breeds in the APA and some from ABA that shows those characteristics and more. Lemme see if I can get it up.

Here is one that I like...

I also wanted tiny combs and clean feet.

I have been very happy with Ameraucana, Spitzhauben, Wyandotte, Dominique, and Rose Comb Leghorns (but the males still have huge wattles).

My Rose Comb Leghorns that I bought from breeders do tend to have a few that go broody every year.

I did keep looking at... but never tried... rose comb Dorkings for a super broody.

My bantam Ameraucanas go broody, but my standard ones never did.
