Detailed steps on teaching chicks to eat? How do I do it???

A metal ball is shiny so they are attracted to it.

I stick their beaks in the water, tip them up so they can swallow, and then stick their beaks in the food. Sometimes they grab a piece, sometimes they don't. It's more to show them where it's at. They explore and poke around at every thing in the brooder. They will figure out what to eat.

I never ended up having to put anything in the feed - they should learn on their own.
As soon as one learns, she/he teaches the others.

Thanks for all the info! I think I will show them where the food and water is when they first arrive, then I will leave the rest to them and let them teach the other chicks how to eat it. Thanks!

haha! I thought you meant meatball as well! I have never heard of putting a metal ball in a feeder but it does seem like it might work
