Determining hen egg production

Anyone got any ideas on how one could determine individual hens egg production.
For example lets say you're breeding buff orpingtons and you want selectively breed for better egg production by keeping your best layers and culling the rest. How would you go about determining which hens to keep and which to cull?

Trap nesting. It traps a hen when she goes to lay an egg. You use toe punches, wing clips or legbands to be sure of identity and keep Track that way

How Many trap nests would you need for say a flock of 30 hens?

Probably 30 since theythey'd be stuck in there until you let them out, which might not be before they're all done laying

2 years.
The 2nd year tells the tale on how well they lay long term.
Trap nesting 30 birds would be a full time job.
