Hey, I am trying to determine the gender of my ducks. I’m pretty sure the Pekin is female and the black and white one is a male, but since I know this can be problematic I was hoping for a second opinion. They are 2 and a half months old now, and they are both a big part of the family now so really don’t want to get rid of one. The female is much larger than the male so I was wondering if that would help protect her from being hurt by the male due to over breeding. Could I let them have duckling and keep a female or two to prevent overbreeding that way? Does anyone have advice?

Pekin are a large breed, thus the size difference. I believe you're right with the gender ID, the pied certainly sounds male to me.

No matter the size difference though, once a drake is 'in the mood' he will hound the female. You can try to hatch out some eggs from them, but Pekin are not a very broody breed so you'll need to incubate them yourself. And you would need to keep the male separated from the chicks once they become adolescents until they reach full growth, or they could be harmed by him.

The Pekin sounds like a boy and the other one it’s hard to tell.

Can you get a video of each of them? It’s kind of hard to tell who is talking in the video 😅
