Devastated after dog attack

Same thing happened to me last week. While my 6 hens were free-ranging some neighbors dog got out (pure breed Pointer) and killed 2 hens, and severely wounded another. I got off a couple shots (pictol) at it but missed.

Two days later the dog is back! I grabbed my pistol again and ran after it. Caught up with the owner, who was touring around the neighborhood in a golf cart - while letting the dog run loose.

I gave the owner a serious mouthful and made it clear that I will shoot that dog on site if it enters my property again (this time with a 12 gauge....).

Yesterday. something got another hen. Just a huge pile to feathers left.

I don't feel safe letting my hens free-range anymore. Hate the thought of keeping them locked up their entire lives...

The poisonous green pellet mice bait might make a dog sick enough to die. Just keep it away from where chickens are.

I feel for you. This morning i found a pit looking dog laying in my back yard - it had just eaten 2 of my chickens and I cant find the 3rd. =[
I am praying that I find her when I get back home. I feel horrible as I did not close their pen last night - assuming they'd be fine as I have done it before. Shame on me as I failed them.
I dont know whos dog it was I ran it off.

I am very sorry about your two hens; I hope you find your third girl, alive and well -- though she will certainly be traumatized.

I lost three of my original hens because I forgot to close the coop door One Night. It feels awful when you "fail" them. But, you are only human and all of us make mistakes or forget once in a while. Take care and be kind to yourself.

Well to our surprise we found all of them alive when we got home!!!
They are very banged up tons of feathers missing and Ronnie's fave chicken has bone exposed on her neck but none the less alive!! Praise God
