Again, sorry for your loss. I know my dogs might think they are playing and not really killing for sport. I mean think about it - the movement would be enough to get their prey drive into action which is why dogs play.
Domestic dogs generally don't eat their kill unless they are truley strays meaning - no home to go to. They don't need to feed since they have food at home. But, they still have a prey drive which we forget since they live with us in our homes.
