Developing early?

I just noticed wattles on this chick, about 5 weeks old, and it seemed too soon. It should be a female but it was bought in-store and I assume chosen by an associate. Is it just trying to catch up in development to all its older cousins or could this be a rooster?

It has the darker coloring of a female barred rock. Probably just an early developer, as you say. Post back in a couple of weeks if it is still unclear.
