Is red clover as good?

According to this "fact" sheet, Red Clover can make great hay, is more productive, and is more drought tolerant than white clover, but isn't as high-quality as white clover ...

The point I was making about the "intermediate" sized clovers is they are good for grazing chickens because they don't get as tall. Some people handle that by having other animals graze ahead of the birds. Or they mow. I'm not sure how well tall clover takes to mowing ... unless you're cutting it for hay.

I don't know if they have "intermediate" size red clovers as I haven't looked into those. They might. That website might have some good info about various forage options. Poke around.

the are others like vetch, brassicus, and more legumes. . . . .

i planted scarlet runner beans on a fence and the birds did not eat the leaves-- made a great shady area in an otherwise hot sunny area.

One of the two small fields we just seeded for the birds.

YES.  And zip ties.  Right on up there with duct tape in my book!

My daughter says my life motto is ........ if it moves but shouldn't, get the duct tape (or balertwine) - if it doesn't move, but should, get the WD-40.

She hasn't been around since I discovered all the different sizes and strengths of zip ties. OR all the uses for cattle panels!

BTW Bee, Mike mentioned me selling my cattle panels at my moving ysrd sale. I said no way! They are going to be my chicken house and horse barn when we get to where we are going. He thought I was nuts! Then I showed him your hoop coop.......... :)

I'm using some in the garden for my tomatoes and cukes and after the garden is done I'm going to make a hoop house wood shed out of them. When spring comes again I may just deconstruct the wood hoopty hut and use them again in the garden.....

Life is good with cattle panels.
