It seems that many of the people on this particular board have been working on Lavender Orpingtons for some time. I am new to chickens and new to color genetics. I have a few questions and I hope that you guys wouldn't mind teaching me a bit. I understand blue Andalusian genetics and the lavender gene's effect of diluting color. And I've read http://kippenjungle.nl/basisEN.htm, which is an overwhelming amount of info on 'basic' color genetics.

There are some beautiful lavender Orps out there that look sort of silvery/light grey with no lacing on the feather edges. I assume this is the goal: uniform color. But I've also seen some amazing looking lavender Orps that also have some yellow/gold color over the neck and back (hackle and saddle feathers maybe?). These birds are gorgeous to my untrained eye, but is the yellow bad from a 'true to color' standpoint? Is this something you're trying to breed out, a variation on a theme, or perhaps a different color pattern altogether?

Thanks so much for any info.
