Dewinged? is this what it sounds like it is?

i saw a hatchery offer dewinging. is this what i think it is? why would you want your birds dewinged? how do they do it?

Never heard of it. Are they talking about chicks or full grown birds? I know you can trim the flight feathers to keep them from flying. I wouldn't want that either, much less what "dewinging" sounds like.
 
positive it was day old chicks, i forget which hatchery. it sounds appalling!

just checked, it was ideal hatchery, for 12 cents/bird they will dewing.

Dewinging is not very nice. It's the removing of the wing bone to stop flight, which to me doesnt make sense any ways since chickens cant fly.
Usually only people who buy in large amounts and keep them in smaller spaces have it done.

Mare is right, it's done just like de-beaking when a space for 5-10 chickens has 50 chickens shoved in it.

If anyone here has some photos of a de-winged chick or adult it would help illustrate what exactly de-wing means.
