Deworming Chickens With Wazine.

We are deworming our chickens ( 9 golden comets -1 1/2 yrs and 6 bsl - 7 mos.) . This is the first time doing so. We are using WAZINE for this. The bottle says do not consume eggs while using this , but for how long?

14 days. And you do know that Wazine ONLY will kill roundworms, right? If they have any other type of worm, it won't work.

No I Did Not Know That. Would D.e. Be A Better Solution? Honestly, I Don't Know If They Have Worms Ay All. This Is Just For Prevention. How Do You Know For Sure If They Have Worms? Had 1 Golden Comet Act Lethargic Almost Looked Sleepy And Not Spunky For Treats 1 Day, Then Was Normal The Next. Wife Went To T.s. And They Said Might Be Worms And Was Suggested To Use Wazine. The Directions Aren't Clear As To A Time Frame For Consumption Of Eggs After Finishing The Use Or For How Long To Administer The Dosages. What Would You Suggest? Any Advice Appreciated. THX.

If the chickens are over six months old, free range, and never been wormed, they probably have worms... many illnesses are parasite related.

Wazine actually says to not use it at all on Laying chickens... but, we all use wormers off label for chickens? I believe with Wazine I have heard it is 30 days and does not kill all worms. (not sure about the withdrawal, I choose not to use Wazine myself). Might only kill round worms and chickens get several kinds of worms.
Valbazen is a better choice in my opinion. Use the search here on BYC... and know that if you want to worm effectively, it's best to use something you give individually to each chicken...
If you worm with Wazine in the water.. how much medicine / wormer did each chicken get? Was it enough? Too much?

Search here "worming with Valbazen".. and "giving oral medications"... You will need to repeat worming in 10 days.. if you have used or want to use Wazine first.. then use Valbazen for the second dose.. all of these require withholding, not eating the chickens or the eggs for at least ... until the 15th day after the second or last dosage of worming medicine... also no "hatching" of those eggs. You can search and pay special note to good info on worming posted by dawg53 -- the more recent posts, in recent years by anyone are better, we all learn as we go.

Tapeworms take extra treatments..... harder to get rid off. And, DE does not kill worms... does not treat worms or mites in chickens.. it's nice and might help prevent some, but not all.... Sevin Dust for Mites..

No, DE won't work. Here's a great post on Valbazen. I use it on my flock and am very happy with it.

What if you can't find any other wormer than Wazine? Its the only one they sell at Coastal, and none of my other local feedstores carry chicken wormer. Can I get the other stuff online?

Dosage for the valbazen is orally undiluted, 1/2cc for standards, 1/4cc for smaller birds. Same dosage for the safeguard. Redose again in 10 days.
