deworming chickens????????????????

No one has mentioned the time span to throw the eggs away after de-worming your chickens. I used Ivermectin and was told to throw my eggs away for 3 days. I would like to play it safe and no guessing. This is the first time I have ever de-wormed my chickens, I am still learning. I have 10 mixed road island reds. I have had 4 die with in a year span and did not know why until some one mentioned worms. So I wormed 2 days ago and I have spunky chickens..lol I have also increased there ventilation.

We've only had issues with tapeworms. When segments are noticed in their waste, we worm with Zimecterin Gold (about twice per year). I toss eggs for a few days and then don't worry about it. The Praziquantel (one ingredient) can actually be prescribed for human use, so I'm not going to worry and stress too much about the minute amount of byproduct in the egg after several days.

bleach and turpentine in chickens water have been a time and true way to treat worms in chickens since god knows when.

we stick to what works.

Saladin uses bleach, I mean not the whole jug

but a few droplets

I use turpentine. not the whole container

but a drop or two.

and we don't eat the eggs for about a week. big deal we both have a lot im sure. I know I do have a surplus of eggs in case I need to deworm my chooks.

and we are both from the south and we get our information handed down from generation to generation.

whats the big deal????

wow, it looks like you have had chickens for some time. I hope to be that way some day..lol I love to learn. Well my chickens seem to be doing fine and they are spunky. I am going to wait the week for safe measures and then start on the chicken coop for more ventilation. Thank you so much for your advice, it helps me learn.

How much acv do u give them? I've not seen any worms but they look so sluggish and the egg laying has dropped in half and they r free roaming. I started giving the wazine 17 for three days now and after reading this article, I'm going to stop. Now after three days of giving them the wazine17 , how long do I refrain from eating the eggs?

What do
You can't, unless they live in wire floored cages only, or you believe that DE/ACV will prevent infestation.  (I'd love to see proof of that.)  You treat, either when they get sick, or routinely.  That's what this thread is about.  You believe the folks who say DE and/or ACV work, you treat annually with a nasty drug, or you try to catch it if they get infested before the infestation kills them.  At least that is what I am getting from this thread.

I have no magic answer, not even an opinion at this point.  That's why I'm reading here!

What do you use?

From all that I've read about DE I tend to think of it as more of a preventive than an actual wormer to clear out an infestation.  Others swear by the pumpkin seeds mixed with buttermilk method.

I used valbazen, which is marketed as a cattle & sheep wormer.  Takes care of just about every type of worm you can think of.

What is your egg retention?? Is there a wormer that allows the eggs still to be eaten??
