deworming chickens????????????????

From all that I've read about DE I tend to think of it as more of a preventive than an actual wormer to clear out an infestation. Others swear by the pumpkin seeds mixed with buttermilk method.
I used valbazen, which is marketed as a cattle & sheep wormer. Takes care of just about every type of worm you can think of.

In most animal species [including humans in a large part of the world] a certain population of worms in the gut is normal. It's when this population gets out of balance that problems occur. When you worm chickens or other animals you are giving them a poison in a controlled dosage. IMO this should be done only when necessary & not on a precautionarry basis.
Also, despite what many on here posit, there is no way a tablespoon of vinegar in a gallon of water will kill worms. The same is true of garlic. These are myths promulgated by the "Natural" crowd. If a tablespoon of vinegar takes care of your worm problem it's because you didn't have a worm problem.

I mix DE in with both my hens scratch and the goats food weekly, I also dust the inside of the coop and any chickens or goats that don't run away monthly.

I was under the impression that the feed I bought has a dewormer in it. It is medicated... should I worry about worms too?

Medicated feed is medicated with amprolium, which helps prevent infestation/illness from cocci. Has nothing to do with worms.

You can't, unless they live in wire floored cages only, or you believe that DE/ACV will prevent infestation. (I'd love to see proof of that.) You treat, either when they get sick, or routinely. That's what this thread is about. You believe the folks who say DE and/or ACV work, you treat annually with a nasty drug, or you try to catch it if they get infested before the infestation kills them. At least that is what I am getting from this thread.

I have no magic answer, not even an opinion at this point. That's why I'm reading here!

THe theory about vinegar treated water is that the increased acidity from the vinegar kills the worms. Vinegar at full strength has a 5% acidity level. If you add a tablespoon of that 5% acidic vinegar to a gallon of water just how acidic does that water become? Think about it. How could this very minute amount of acid kill anything?
This is just one example of people hearing & repeating something without wasting any time thinking about it. Don't even get me started on DE!
