Hi all!

I am new here.. trying to find some advice on deworming chickens... my mom has 10 chickens, never dewormed and one is very very thin, wobbly, with no lack of appetite....

i took a stool sample and did a fecal on it at work ( i work in a vet clinic) and this one particular chicken is positive for the cecal worm, Heterakis gallinae... anyway.. the local feed store doesnt sell dewormer and i just thought i would ask ...

and yes, the clinic i work at has panacur, i dont know how to script it out, and the doctors are not very educated on chickens....

thank you!

Hi Stefanie,

I just dewormed my flock a month ago. I searched long and hard for a safe product since my pullets are laying. There is a thread on here discussing this issue that I will try to find and send to you.

Meanwhile, you might want to explore the link I am posting here regarding the product I used. I am very pleased with the product. There is a Q & A section on the home page that you might read to help you make your decision.

Ok, so actually inject, not just put into mouth? I guess I'd have to do a search but, most of the pastes here I see are for horses. Is this what you use a pea sz. amount?
I don't think mine have worms, they matured and went outside at the start of winter ( I live in Upstate NY ). If they had worms, can DE in the food help now?

Yogiman, looks like a product I would buy. How many chickens do you have? I only have 5 so how long would something of that sz. would I need for the week they suggest to feed?

Hi s6bee,
I have a flock of 11 buff orps and 8 RIR that are free pastured. I did an extensive search for a multi-wormer until I found this product. Most wormers treat only one species of worm where as this one supposedly gets them all. Added, most wormers require that you trash the eggs for a period of time. Other products state not to give to laying hens. This product states that you do not have to trash the eggs.
This product is a 1.25 lb. (quart size) plastic container. It is pelletized just like laying pellets and has a vitamin supplement. Feeding instructions are: mix 1.25 with 50# of feed or for a small flock "use one scoop (1/3 oz) per one pound of food (scoop is included in container).
If you can believe their advertizement they claim that it is the only wormer approved by the FDA.

Hi Yogi
thanks for the link and the extensive search. This is looks to be a great wormer.

Have you used Rooster Booster Multi Wormer?

Have you used Rooster Booster Multi Wormer?

Yes, by all means I have used it and I have noticed a marked improement in my flock as well as in he egg production and quality of the eggs. I'm sold on it.
The link for them is: roosterbooster.com
They have a Q & A section that is very informative as well.
If for some reason you can't find the info you desire just PM me and I will help you.

Thanks Yogi

I was looking at it for the worming side.

I have no problem with the egg laying side of things.
However i have some older hens i acquired from family members and i am sure they have worms, and i want something that will do the job.

And i would love to keep/use the eggs. but most products say you cant use the eggs for a while.
Just asking if you have a opinion on the worming side of this product?

BA
