Good morning, We found small worms (grain like) in a hens poop last night. Treated all 5 hens with a pour on Ivermectin last night. We are going to clean coop and run today. I understand egg withdrawl. But I am struggling with the eggs we have in the fridge. I haven't seen any worms in the eggs I have prepared. The hens really do not show any signs of parasite overload. Are the eggs before treatment o.k. to eat? My guess is that as long as I don't see in worms in them they are o.k. Just wanted some feedback. Thanks in advance!

A worm would have to crawl up the oviduct and get stuck in the egg during the forming process. They are usually int he intestinal tract which is a separate organ.

Grain like.. either tape worms or possibly just fresh maggots in the poo?

You eggs in the fridge should be fine.

Hens may NOT show signs of parasite over load even if they have it... since they a prey animals they will do EVERY thing they can to hide ANY weakness or risk being preyed on first and sometimes even ostracized by their own flock.

How long did you decide to with hold eggs for?

I have watched you tube and they suggest for worming is braggs apple cider vinegar (mother earth) unfiltered. I have 4 chicks and a 1 liter bottle of water and I put 1/4 tsp of vinegar in their water. I'm not sure if this will help if your chicks already have worms. It is a good start.

ACV will NOT work for worming. Neither will pumpkin seeds, hot pepper flakes or DE added to the food.

Sorry but you are mislead if you believe that it will... and I would like to see some scientific studies conducted showing the efficacy of said product. I promise I don't mean to be ugly here... I'm ALL for natural if it works... but your selection does NOT and so you will be having a false sense of security regarding worm load.

I offer to many... take the fake science to the lab for before and after worm load tests with your treatment of choice... IF you wanna know the truth. Hear say from people who never run test is completely irrelevant. I will even offer to pay half the fee for the fecal floats to be done... No takers YET.

Please note... a dear friend uses ACV in her water twice per week and STILL had to worm. The ONLY worms that can be seen in droppings are tape worms and large round worms (under heavy load). All others will stay in the intestine and only their microscopic oocysts (eggs) will pass. ACV will NOT "prevent" worms either. :hmm

PLEASE don't believe everything you see on you tube... or even here! ALWAYS get a second opinion... AND follow the science. ;)

I read somewhere that it is recommended to withhold eggs for two weeks. I probably won't go that long. But I am considering doing a second deworming after two weeks. We have gone through this a couple years ago and I had only done one round. I was hoping that it was fresh maggot hatch in some poo. But my son saw the hen poop! So it wasn't there long enough. Thank you for all of you valuable information!

If you see them again in feces, take a pic and post it here. I'll tell you if it's tapeworms or not.
