we should. I think this is the only forum that I've ever been around on that doesn't have an abbreviations list somewhere.
DH/DW/DD/MIL/SIL type stuff is common to a lot of forums. Sure wife isn't a long word, but sister in law gets pretty annoying to type out repeatedly. (makes sense though, aren't most in-laws pretty annoying??)
IIRC is on a lot of forums, "if I remember correctly"
YMMV = your mileage may vary
Not all chicken breeds have a common abbreviation. Most seem pretty obvious IF you generally know the breeds to being with. I can see how a beginner wouldn't have a clue though.
breeds that I have:
BCM = Black Copper Marans, even though they come in blue too it's not common
CM = Cuckoo Marans, and is not commonly used unless the thread is already dedicated to Marans in general.
BO = Buff Orpington
BR = Barred Rock
BSL/RSL = black or red sex-link
EE = easter egger
SF = Salmon Faverolle
There are 2 links to abbreviations in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) at the top of the Index page.
Actually the most important abbreviation on BYC is FAQs!
