DH hurt his back BAD!!! What am I to do?

I have those thing too, but love can overcome many things. You start it, he'll finish it. But then you could put him down and look on cl for another one.

I have experienced recurring back problems for the past 30 years, but she hasn't "put me down" yet. Don't give her any ideas.

Even when doubled over with spasms, I can usually get the things done that need doing. It takes a little longer and sometimes the heavy lifting has to wait, but the basic hammer and saw stuff is do-able, especially with a little help.

I can't hammer either. But I love my drill with screwdriver attachment -- The advantage of screws is also that you can remove them if you make a mistake. Nails are much harder.

Try it yourself! I'm sure your husband can give tips and moral support, and can teach you some of the things that you need to be able to do. It's a great learning opportunity to stretch yourself a little.

Read up all about tool safety first, or have the wood cut at Home Depot/Lowes. (or a friend, father...surely someone can at least do the cutting?)

Screws and a drill are your friend, no need for a hammer.

Sounds like the ladies on this forum are trying to encourage the elimination of the "hunter/gatherer provider" position. Corporate downsizing hits the backyard chickeners, "Sorry honey but your job has been terminated due to lack of production". He will feel like a cow that no longer gives milk.

Hope he feels better, just have him supervise you while you do it. It's probably what he was angling for anyway. Remember the pointy end goes towards the wood. Good luck.

Well, since I can't have him "put down", we've agreed to have him supervise while I attempt to build. He did go for some spinal injections today, so maybe by the weekend, he'll be able to help a little bit w/ construction. We'll see how it goes. These babies in the dining room are getting bigger & bigger every day & they are starting to become a bit offensive in the odor department, regardless how often I clean them.

I would have suggested if you have a storage building of some sort to just put them in a huge cardboard box until hubby is better or get a dog house on one of those sites like craigslist or something. Good luck with building it. It will be very rewarding for you.

Speaking from experience....

I found that if I used a comb to hold the nail I could hammer easier. I was always afraid of hitting my fingers - so was too scared to really whale at it! So if this is your trouble.... give it a try. You'll be an old hand at hammering and proud of yourself in the end!

Got some work done today on the run extension, wire should be up by tmrw. I guess he wants to do the run first, then the coop. I guess he likes chickens in his dining room......
