of getting rid of all our chickens. he is tired of fooling with them and having to go change water on days like today. To be honest me or him really are not able to take care of them any more. we both have too many health problems. So I might be chickenless before long if he doesnt change his mind again.

Well you can cut back on the animals if you do not want to give them up entirely. Maybe 12 chickens will be fine and for a couple, you can get by with six hens.

right now we have almost 100 of them. and I am not able to take care of them anymore too sick, and dh's body just wont let him so it will be the best thing for them and us.

Next time he says he is thinking ... tell him to shake his head, maybe the thought will go away?

I am sorry to hear your not doing well!!

That is about what we have and I am going to start culling before to long. When I started I did not expect the amount of resistance to culling the birds from my DW. She even gives a disgusting sigh when I sell a bird to somebody for the purpose of the pot.

I am trying to get him to just get rid of half of them, in the summer and spring and fall it is not that bad except I cant clean the coops out the way they need to be, I dont have enough breath to walk too much anymore(heart problems) and dh has MS so he cant get around too good either. dd use to help us but now she wont fool with them. I think he has just overwelmed himself with too many at first he just wanted 10 then 20 then 4 breeds now he is up to 7 breeds and too many of them. we have herritage rir's, herritage delawares, white rocks, herritage barred rocks, white leghorns buff cornish dark cornish, white laced red cornish, and black copper marans not to mention the jumbo quail.

Going from 100 chickens to none would be a little to drastic for me. Ewesheep is right, cut down first before cutting out entirely. Good Luck.

sorry for all the health problems. I do agree with the others. cut down. You yourself said half. What if you just keep 2 of each breed? That would bring you down to 14, right? And maybe there are a few favorites. Make it 20 and no more. And as for cleaning the coops...maybe some neighbor kid would like to make a few bucks. Like when people hire someone to mow the lawn. Ask around. Wouldn't hurt. There are a lot of good souls out there. We just don't see them very often any more.
