Thanks so much for all the nice compliments! I will show them to DH - he will be so proud!
There are tons of pictures of the process of building our coop on my "chicken blog"
http://polloplayer.wordpress.com/
You have to scroll through a lot of other random stuff to find them, but the June and July posts are fairly heavy with coop-building pix, I think. Our biggest challenge was to keep the coop low-profile and attractive because the neighborhood we live in has pretty strict CC&R's from the HOA, and neighbors have high expectations about how things can/should look.
We built the coop and pen on the East side of our property in an area that just had a dog run and not much else, so everything we've done has been a pretty big improvement.
DH IS a keeper. But he likes to plan more than build - I must confess that a carpenter has done most of the work. DH has helped a lot with the deck, though.
And the NEXT step - I'm getting a fountain to go up against the wall near the deck, so the hens will be able to listen to the soothing sound of water all day. Maybe THEN they will lay me some eggs!!!!
