ok my girls are about 1 1/2 old......i've got a couple of questions, first at what age do you start worming them? if you do at all and how many times a year?, and when do they start to lay eggs?

Most hens start laying by about 6 months. Some breeds start a little later.

I don't worm my chickens. Never had a problem. Just use food grade DE regularly in their feed.

I'd have expected the hens to be laying by 1 1/2, but I've only had had experience with a couple of breeds (Nankins, Light Sussex and Pekin). As far as worming goes I was told that if they have plenty of grass to run around on and aren't crowded there's no need for regular worming. Just keep an eye on them and worm at the first sign of infection; pale, floppy combs or general lethargy. Hope this helps,
Fenella.
