DH hates cell phones, though he has to carry one for work. He hates texting even worse. His favorite rant is about watching the school kids leave the schools and getting on their cell phones immediately to text. He has to work traffic control out at the high school sometimes and he says the kids are like "ducks in a row", texting away and not watching for anything - cars - while they do. He celebrated when Arkansas passed a law banning texting while driving.
He's long said that he wishes all the cell towers in the area would go down just so he could watch a few teenagers lose their minds.
Well today he got his wish.
Someone cut a major fiber optic line. We have no cell service and no DSL.
DH wants to go riding around town just to see what people are doing since they can't be texting.

Kat? I am a curmudgeon, I guess. Getting rid of the cell phone was the best thing I ever did! Boss wouldn't pay for it, but he burned up my minutes!

I love not being tied to a cell phone, especially since 2 years ago DH got his truck totaled by a 16 year old girl - texting.

Mom used to shop at the little grocery store next to the fire station. Every time the trucks went out she'd say "oh, good, I hope they're going to my house, so I can redecorate!" Then she got to follow them back to the house one day. Odd, but she NEVER said that again!

DH will be eligible for retirement next month, although he probably won't. He says as soon as he does retire, the cell phones are gone.

OMG that is too funny!!!! All we have are cell phones. And we didn't have the money to pay the bill for a bit there, and the kids were going NUTS!!!! We actually waited a few days before paying it just for poops and giggles.

Cutting the fiber optic cables became one of the regular excuses for AT&T. Every month we would lose the connection for about 3 hours up here in Fayetteville. When you don't have a landline, you can get ticked off VERY easily.

Needless to say, I'm now a Verizon customer.

And is one of the reasons why we won't ever be without a landline. Cell phones get lost, you forget to charge them, you get somewhere out here in no man's land where there's no service.
By the way, we've had verizon for almost a year now (when they bought out Alltel). They're no better.
