I've been volunteering for a cat Rescue for almost 2 years now, we've saved over 9,000 cats since 1999. I ended up getting stuck with our only Diabetic cat in the system and have had him for over a year. I've asked the owner (of the Rescue) to find somewhere to move him to, but there just isn't anywhere for him to go. We've posted him on MANY special needs adoption websites and put his flyer up at all the vet hospitals, even Craigslist, as well as all our adoption sites. We just can't get him adopted.

He is the most sweetest most loving cat in the world- but he doesn't like other animals. He will just follow you around and sit on you and he just wants to be next to you for 24/7... He is VERY VERY good about taking his insulin- he doesn't even blink, AND everything for him costs less than $20 bucks a month. I don't know why we can't get him adopted. The perfect home would be an older couple or single person who doesn't have any other animals, or maybe one other older cat. He really is a good cat.

Does anyone have any ideas on how we can get him adopted or find a home for him?

I wonder if someone with diabetes would be willing to adopt him? Someone that's informed and isn't afraid of the disease or the care needed? A lot of people are really squeamish about the idea of giving an animal shots. It's just a thought. They might also know someone, a friend or family member, that is also better informed and not afraid to adopt him. It's just a thought. Maybe try posting in the chat section of a diabetes support forum, writing to a group that has a newsletter, calling a local group to ask if they would mind mentioning it or even going to a local support group, if you can find one.

He sounds like he'd be a good resident cat for an adult care facility or similar environment. There would be staff that wouldn't blink an eye over giving an injection. Good luck!

With you having so many he is a hard one for you I am sure. Its too bad he cannot get a media blitz like some other pets have to help in the home search. I have had one dog that just could not cope with other animals which made it impossible for us to keep. It was terrible looking for a home because everyone who would rescue an older animal generally has done so many times in the past and has a house full just like us. We got lucky through a vet and found someone who had just lost a pet and was looking for a calm pet to keep them company. Perfect fit. It was not our vet though. I plastered notices in vets a full hour away from us. I was afraid he would never find that perfect home and would have to continue hiding from the rest of our animals forever. Good luck.
