How do you keep them from chewing the diaper off?

Crazy?

We all have chickens in our back yards next to the swing set, some in plastic playschool houses. so I guess crazy is kinda relative...

How do you keep them from chewing the diaper off?

The first few minutes or so she tried to get it off and I told her no firmly and she has left it alone since.

She seems to be really ok with the idea of leaving it on. And she now has started going to the door and whining to be let out.​

You will need to get some kind of enzyme odor destroyer to eliminate the smell in the carpet. She will be able to smell it until you do, and you might, too. Shampooing will not get rid of the smell. There are all kinds of products. Stuff like Nature's Miracle and ZapsIt.

Clean the spot well and rinse with half water and half listerine (the yucky yellow kind). Let dry then rinse once more. This will get rid of all residual smell and bacteria. Then let dry really well and sprinkle with white pepper. Next time she goes to sniff that spot before doing her business... she gets a nose full of pepper and decides it is NOT a good place to even THINK about sniffing much less pottying!

Remember that the pee spreads into the padding... so when you wash that spot, use liberal amounts of solution and rinse!

Chi's are really hard to house train. You may find that she goes right back to peeing on the carpet when you take the diaper off. The key is supervision. You may have to have her on leash and tied to you 24/7 but they need to have all accidents prevented. That way you can also catch her when she does have an accident and correct it, otherwise if you just find an accident, you can't correct her for it.

Also make sure you are rewarding going potty outside. So go outside with her, and as soon as she goes, make a fuss over her and immediately give a treat. It doesn't work to just stand at the door and do it (then you're just rewarding coming inside) you actually need the treat to be in her mouth within 2-3 seconds of her peeing.

The diapers are fine for now, letting her get a little older will help with potty training too. But you shouldn't need them more than a few months. She probably won't actually pee in them, so you could use a cloth diaper (that would be more environmentally friendly).
