i will just keep wiping chick butts and tomorrow i'll put straw down, thanks again,

I've got four chicks, now 5days old. They are my first hens in my life! I've had them for 1 and half days. Three of them are fine, running around, eating, drinking, cheeping, and sleeping under the ecoglow brooder. The 4th however is getting me worried. On day one she drank water, and I saw her eating food with the others (I'm giving them fermented chick starter, unmedicated) but she spends much more time under the ecoglow than the others, and today I took her out from under there and dipped her beak in the water, because I was worried she might be dehydrating under there. She drank 2 or 3 swallows and then ran back under the ecoglow. Earlier today I noticed she had some poop stuck on her feathers near her butt, and I wiped that off, and immediately after she did a very liquid poop.
I have put a drop of ACV in the water, and plan to make sure she gets a drink of water by dipping her beak in it every hour today. Is there anything else I can do?

Sorry for your loss!

I'm pretty new to all this and I can't say what happened to your chick but I might suggest keeping things simpler next time. We raise ours in plastic totes for the first 4-6 weeks. They get pine shavings on the bottom and a heat lamp clamped to the top of the tote, plain fresh tap water and Purina medicated starter-grower feed. That's it. Nothing more. No treats and no outside time. Change the shavings as needed. We've yet to lose a chick (after first 24 hours of delivery from hatchery) or have any illnesses. I'm wondering if the time on your lawn or some of the treats caused the issue. Keeping them confined and providing only water and medicated starter really lessens the chances of problems, IMO.

Others with more experience will surely chime in; but I wanted to extend my condolences and offer that advice for your next batch of chicks.

Hi, I have quite a dilemna regarding diarrhea in my 6-7 week old chicks.

What are the causes of Diarrhea in chicks that are very young? I have been feeding medicated chick starter for their first 6 weeks and have also given them some worms from the yard. They've also gotten low-fat yogurt and grapes. The problem is some of them have had diarrhea on and off for the past two-three weeks. I thought it was the grapes and the yogurt and have not given it to them for at least a week and a half. But the diarrhea has continued. Mind you, it's not bad, just sometimes.

I thought it was just stress that was doing it. I've been letting them out almost every evening or during the day for a jaunt pecking in the grass in our yard and always supervise them lest a hawk or neighborhood cat get them. As far I know, our yard is pesticide free.

Any ideas as to that is causing their illness? Does it have to do with stress or the food I was feeding? Any thoughts?
My chicks are five weeks old with same problem and feed the same food.

Medicated feed will not prevent or cure Cocci.
You are most likely dealing with a Cocci outbreak and the only thing that will save your chicks is Corid.
