Happy had an autopsy/Necropsy done. We just had to know what happened to her. Was she egg bound? Did she have worms? Did an egg break inside of her?

The lumps that were hard as a rock was two large tumors. By the size of them they look like they have been growing for a long while now. But who knows?

Happy was the top hen. No signs that anything was wrong with her, up until last weekend.

Thank you and Hugs

Happy passed away early this afternoon.

I'm so sorry to hear about Happy :hugs

It's good that you investigated further to see what was going on inside.
Those are not tumors. See the "layers" of "material" "caseous exude"? Often that is called Lash material since it's multiple layers - it's an encasement of "something" that either made it's way into the abdomen like an egg yolk or those are lash eggs that came from the oviduct and dropped into the abdomen - either way - reproductive problem.

You did what you could for her. It's sad and frustrating that laying hens suffer with these conditions - I have yet to find much that helps unless I recognize symptoms early on and start supportive care - even then, it's just borrowed time.

Below are just a few(sadly out of 1000's of posts) here on BYC of necropsy pictures performed by members. So fair warning - necropsy photos.
