I just checked on the broodys ducky in my incubator put more bacitracin on the membrane and he made a peep at me! Hes squirming around more too. The air cell end is off, so should I keep him like I have laying down on the paper towels?

OK that is all the catching up I can do. Must go make breakfast and I must be productive today. Lil stubborn chick is still giving me grief. Poor thing is still not walking after being in his cup all night with its feet tucked in. That leg is right back out. It needs to make some serious progress today or it might need to pass on to chick heaven.

Here was my link I posted in Emergencies for those who were wanting to help out or comment on there. This lil guy has taken up enough of this board!

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A FANTASTIC MORNING!

Most people on here know more than I do, but until they wake up I would say yes. Just leave em be. If the membranes are not turning brown, it will do the rest on its own hopefully!

Quote: agree yup and when black betty got of the nest she showed them the food, and I did dip their beaks in the water!

So..... Just went to check on one of my hens that I have in the house and there is my first very unexpected chick!!!!!! Soooooo stinking excited but what the &$@! Do I do now??? Is it ok with straw bedding???
awwwwwww congrats
I'm sorry Oz, it was meant to be a joke.

I honestly believe that you were (and still are) cuter than a duckling. and your kids are absolutely gorgeous!s
LOL
Quote: I am seriously worried that I should clean it though, they just sit in it, but this time there are dirty duck eggs in it, so it will have to be shut down and cleaned, stay tuned if "she" makes another cooler bator to improvise or shuts it down

Thanks guys! Another one of her eggs has pipped so hopefully it won't be long now. Can I rely on her to show the chicks the good and water? She isn't getting up at all.
YAY!! just don't make my mistake after you catch her up too much take the last eggs and hatch them!
2nd pip under broody duck! She came off her nest to eat take a drink and get wet in the pool so we snuck and took a look, she had covered the nest completely it was so cute & warm!
YAY!!

took a couple pics tonight while candling. I think mine are day 11ish. I need to count days I guess. sorry they are not good quality but you can see the important stuff. I have a video I will figure out how to post later.

This is perfect

This is not-the ring of death-chick died around day 8 or 9.
great pics!

I'm sure no one is on here now but my broody decided to leave the nest to run around so I check on her pippers and the first one had made no progress so I looked inside and it was starting to shrink wrap so I brought it in and opened it up on the top and put bacitracin on the membrane he's a lot more active but still not peeping so I put em on wet paper towels and stuck em in the bator. I can't upload pics for some reason. Lots of veins left so how long til I check again? Low long for more bacitracin or its it good for a while?
its good for over 4 hrs and you can just peek through the window in the bator and watch its progress don't have to open, she will get out on her own from this point when she is stronger after resting period
Awesome!

What are they again? Sorry.. I have a horrible memory.
hey that's my line! LMAO!
Quote: YAY!!!! I want to find a buff or red hen yet for my pen!

Right what do you all think of this.
I candelled one of my shipped eggs last night because I had noticed on day 7 that it seemed to have blood ring. On top of this the air cells are just huge!! I think they were old. Too old. I managed to get 4 this far out of 12. Basically I then candelled the rest and then went back to this one and i had in fact seen it dancing around. So then I had left it. Last night day 9 I candled it and have not seen movement. But there has been growth and I swear it has blood ring. But there is loads of veins too. I don't know what to do about the size of the air cell. Well to stop it growing I know I have to increase the humidity. I think I will do a weight test today on a couple of my other eggs. But I really don't think they will like any moisture added as their cell look fine to me! Just a note tho. All 4 shipped eggs have large air cells but I think this maybe the worst!

This shows the red vein. It looks really read in person.

And again

This last one I'm showing round the other side. Now it looks a lot better to me and I can see veining!
Should I cull it?
The egg contents had moved to here on x and I had put it over to O. So I will check now and see if it had moved to O. Cause they usually stay in one place with death? Maybe not always?
I think its gone, if your not sure wait a few days! sniff it daily though

I'm having a really awful morning. I lost the problem chick last night. She wouldn't eat and I tried and tried, gave her some yolk last night to try and perk her up and she drank quite a bit and she looked better, but when I checked on her this morning she was gone. If that wasn't bad enough I went a put her brooder mate with the broody, all went well so I came back inside, had a coffee etc. Went back to check on them and found her stone cold and dead. I don't know what went wrong this time. I gave the broody 4 chicks that she adopted no problem, they are doing well. This one it seems didn't get that it needs to crawl under her to stay warm. She accepted it no problem. The chick just didn't know what to do... I feel so bad about that. I keep thinking I should've checked. I should've waited until it crawled under her to make sure... I should've tucked it under her myself. I should've, I didn't and now the chick's dead.

And another of the bantams went broody. The last thing I need right now. She's got a few eggs under her, I don't know how many. I don't care at the moment. I'll just let her get on with it.
oh sumi so sorry! I am not liking the whole mother nature raising chicks **** sorry!
