Are they on the floor so the chicks can get out of the nest box with mom? If so I would leave them or move them to the floor. Mom will take care of her babies

He's alive and he's looking pretty good. Since I put him with everyone else, I can't moniter how much food he is eating.
Quote: When we found my polish x sultan pullet had somehow lost her leg in the coop/run, we took her inside to a large cage. I didn't think she would make it, so I brought her hatchmate and put him in the cage with her. Immediately she perked back up and I still think that is what did the trick!!
I'm so glad now that I did not cull her, which was the advice of some. I now have 5 babies from her, my first broody hatch. She does just fine with the one leg, and is a very sweet bird.
BTW, she was not the broody, that was my party silkie
did she ever find her leg? sometimes i leave mine in the strangest places. When we found my polish x sultan pullet had somehow lost her leg in the coop/run, we took her inside to a large cage. I am still amazed that my little weirdo chick survived. I am so thankful for all the experience and info flying around here!! Every time I look at that little chickie, I will think of Sally and be grateful!!
That little bugger kept me up all night with worry....waiting, watching, checking.
I learned so much with my first broody especially what not to do!! That little thing is a survivor!!
Quote: I told DH I wanted to somehow reference Sal in it's name, and after OZ called Sally "SassySally' on his thread and we were laughing, He said, Sassyfrass.....So, that chickie is now Sassafrass, sort of after Sassy Sally....LOLHe remembered from months ago when I said that I wanted to name on Sassafrass some day...Funny, he forgets everything else.....but remembered THAT, at the proper time even, go figure
I try to keep them gender neutral because I had to rename a few last year....then everyone here was tooo confused![]()
