Quote: Why does the humidity level go up so high during hatching? Is it because the eggs release their own moisture too? I don't want to sound stupid, just don't know yet

it is because the chicks are wet when they hatch...so all the moisture on the chicks and in the eggs is released into the air inside the incubator.

yup! and I am out, I am done trying to deal with this today..... I will try again later, I type a story and then hit enter and its gone! uggggg THREE times in a row! so I am off and praying for nice weather again! AND I gotta start the coal stove again its freezing in here!

Have a good day y'all

Oh lord I'm going to lose my mind. The first chick is running all over, peeping and rolling the other eggs around. I see pips on each of the other three eggs, one pipped about an hour ago but hasn't enlarged the hole any. Another is rocking back and forth and gradually enlarging the opening, and the last opened up a tiny little spot and has been pretty quiet since then. The first one rocketing out of its egg so fast is making it hard to convince myself that the other three are fine, just taking their time.

Hurry up, babies, the first chick is lonely!

Quote: That's awesome that they all hatched, I guess I missed it, what breed are they? They sure are cute!!

The guy I got the eggs from had a Black Copper Marans rooster and a Blue Copper Marans rooster in with all kinds of hens. Wyandotte, Orpington, Sussex, Barnevelder, EE, Olive Eggers. Barred Rock, and Partridge Rocks, and I don't know what all...
All the chicks are either black, gray, or silver, black and white. One will be partridge I think, or is partridge right now anyway...Lol.
WOW!

Well, that's what I figured, but safer to ask than assume, thanks

I know that is frustrating- my mom had satellite also, and anytime we got rain, she had the same issues

LOL I can see how this could be frustrating too!!

All of my eggs were pipped when the first chick hatched....some took hours, some took minutes. If I was wondering about one I would tap on the side of the bator to get all the chicks for climb all over the one in question a that seemed to wake them up and help them along

Well... I candled the remaining 5... Nothing. So I float tested them... Nothing. I opened them carefully and here are the results.

The air cell seemed to be the right size, the membrane was clear, blood vessels were absorbed, no free fluid in the air cell, but no movement from the chick. The first one had pipped internally right near the edge, but never made it to an external pip...
Sorry if the pics are graphic, but I really want to know what I am missing...

Of the 4 others, one was in position, had not internally pipped. The other two were not in the proper postition to internally pip. Both of their heads were down, with their beaks facing the wrong direction.

So now I have one poor little lone Am chick. I might need to run to the feed store and buy a friend for her...

I cleaned out the bator really well and I put 3 more eggs into lockdown, due to hatch Monday.

I do not have mold growing in the bator during incubation or lockdown. I do use the vent holes to try to help me regulate my humidity. I have a way harder time trying to keep my humidity steady with the forced air bator. I am not liking my Genesis very much right now.

I am really scared because I have my turkey eggs in there now. I paid a lot for them and I am really counting on hatching some. Even if I get 50% I'll be happy, but the last two hatches, I've only gotten 1 chick!!!

None of my chicks had that much fluid In The egg with them...
So none of those pipped or you didn't see movement? They don't look like they were ready to hatch yet. Once mine pipped and started to unzip there wasn't anything fluidy in there with them...it was like shell and chick and nothing else. How far along were the eggs? Is it possible that your temps might have been a little low slowing down their development?

Helqlo sally I just had the most horrible hatch with my own eggs. I don't know what is going on. Two thermometers both had the same tenp on them and 3 days after hatch day I m still hatching. I got first chick on day 19, 2 more on day 20, 2 on day 21 then a stand still, thought I was done, went to remove the chicks and found 2 more zipping, one glued and the other i thought was glued, but membrane was still moist, helped it out since I had it out, put them back in and woke up to, two more chicks and one of the other two dead. I filled the bater with more water and hoping to get some more. I candled vefore lock down and didnt have to remove any. I thought man im going to have a good hatch. Nope I think out of 32 eggs i wil end up with less then 10. :'(

oh Bellah I am so happy for her! YAY!!  are you going to name her?

Of course my kids wanna name her lucky, I don't know how I'm gonna hatch ducks when my husband wants to keep them all!!! See you guys have husbands that discourage you. im going to be the old woman in the shoe but I will have kids and ducks! Hes an enabler!
And congrats on the pip!!!!!!!
