i can't seem to find, how warm does everyone keep their brooder boxes with brand new just hatched chicks? thanks! :)

95 under the lamp and then decrease by five degrees every week or:

if all the chicks are huddled together under the lamp they are cold put the lamp lower down, if they are sleeping far away from the lamp they are too hot lift up the lamp,

i just do it by how comfortable the chicks look and lift the lamp up higher and higher every week

Im seeing bits and pieces of the ordered eggs being dirty or something. I have other things on my mind. However, I did order a dozen eggs from a person on this site. I received 14 and only one did anything. I followed the 101 of shipped eggs and allowed 36 hrs before setting and then another 48 before I turned the turner on. I have 27 eggs from Kylie at ekfarms and 22 are good in the same incubator. I also got 16 from Papa Brooder and only 8 are good but we knew that we had a chance of bad eggs because of some of his help on the weekend when he was gone screwed a few things up for him. I needed them for my bator so as not to throw off everything and he sent what he had and told me to let him know when I candled. Papa Brooder told me just the other day that he would send me another batch and asked when I wanted them. This other person has blamed it on the Postal service and I guess Im just out the 40 bucks. Or I spent 40 bucks on one egg that may or may not hatch. That's one expensive BLRW.

I use a big old round outdoor themometer in the brooder

I use a dimmer switch on the light (always trying to save power). I dont need more than 50 watts for a 20 chick brooder and 80 watts for 40 but ambient temps are 70+

12 inches from the center of the beam:

95F for a week
90F second week
85F third week
80F 4th week
off

REMEMBER there are THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of people who hatch and have great hatches, just most times this thread helps those who need help and we try to post our good hatches as we go to show you how it all goes down! We all have the good the bad and the ugly!

How much longer do I go with these three?

Here's what the other 7 look like

The veins still haven't receded you need to leave them longer or they will bleed out, once they have air they can survive for a long time in the shell until they fully absorb everything. :)
