Ive got it hooked up and have it running. I am going to see if it will heat up and hold temp. When I turned it on, it was at 75.3 just now. Its 1;30. Since its such a large space. Should I run another fan in it? It has a fan in the top that blows air. It blows pretty hard. I put the fan and heater in its place. How much air is needed? I also have two holes in the bottom where the water drains were. They are two 1/2" holes side by side. Should I add another hole in the top?
given the size of the bator I would have about 4 one inch air vents. you can close them if they are too much but better safe than sorry.

when I first saw the height of your bator I commented on circulation. You may need a few fans to get the heat all the way to the bottom. Try two PC case fans along the back. One near the bottom and one near the middle. Have the fan about 1" from the back wall with the wind blowing towards the back. it will hit the wall and disperse rather than directly onto the eggs. you can get nylon spacers or just use extra nuts on #8 long machine screws

good luck

sally right now...

I just had... The WORST pet store experience today while buying the algae eater for my tank. It's official, they've been rippin me off this whole time.

I reckon the photo pretty much sums up most people's emotions when processing their own birds. If you see her thread in meaties - and i am sure she will report back - that she is doing a great job of it - processing huge roos.

in what way?

Apparently, 2 weeks ago while buying my tank and first fish for it, they KNEW a koi could not live in a 10 gallon tank for more than a couple months. They knew this and were there while I was buying the tank and the fish. Yet they said nothing. Isn't people at a pet store supposed to tell you if you fish can live in the tank or not??? And sell you the right fish??? Then, when I was coming back this weekend to buy the other fish for my tank, (an algae eater and a small fish school) I asked the fish person about the koi. She said she had never heard of such thing. Then, while I was getting zebra danios for my tank, the person couldn't tell the difference between her own fish in the tank. There were zebra danios an long fun zebras. I had to tell her that the long fins were PROBABLY the ones with the LONG FINS. Then while I was paying for the fish, I asked the cashier about the koi. She said "oh yeah those can't stay in a 10 gallon tank for more than a couple months." And since she was THERE while I was buying the fish and tanks two weeks ago and told me nothing, I said "well I bought a tank and a koi here 2 weeks ago and NOBODY told me this... That wouldve been helpful ya know." Then AFTER I payed for the zebra danios, she said "Oh are those going in the tank with your koi?!" (Note she knew that of course I only had 1 tank and haven't had fish in years) I said "yes" and he said "oh those can't go in the tank with the koi- the koi will eat them!" By this time I was getting very annoyed by the fact that they kept trying to sell me fish without telling me anything about them (also note that she tried to sell me the danios for $2 more than the tank said and I had to catch her at it) so I said "really.. You couldn't have told me this BEFORE I paid for them?!" So after a little debate, she took the fish danios and gave me my money back. By the time I got out of there, I could tell from the looks on their faces that they knew I had figured out their little "rip-off scheme"
I am never buying animals there again.

Quote: When I was a teenager, I went to buy some fish. Guy A went to sell me my fish when guy B came out of the back, and said, "Whoa! You can't sell her those fish!" They had Ick. Guy A knew it, and guy B was NOT happy that he didn't tell me, and ask if I needed the medicine for it.
I wish you were closer. I have a Plecco, an Upside Down Catfish, and a Tiger Barb that beats them up (okay, it is the smallest Barb I had, the smallest FISH, and somehow has yet to be eaten). I am trying to get rid of them because the new house has no room for my tank.
P.S. an algae eater can't stay in that small of a tank long either.

There is usually a good "Guy B" at the pet sure I go to- the only one with a good attitude and shares my love for chickens. She has never tried to rip me off and often offers me free fertile silkie eggs from her chickens. Though she was at the store when I bought the koi, she more runs the bird/mammal section of the store and didnt know about the koi scenario. And she was not there today to stop them from ripping me off (usually she helps if she sees the other workers doing wrong)
And.... Algae eaters can't live in my tank long either..? UGHHH ripped off again... Just cause I'm young doesn't mean they should rip me off... I hope they don't do this to other customers
And I have some questions to ask since I am doubting everything the pet store told me. How often do I need to feed the fish? Can goldfish, koi, and gourami all eat the same food? Do I need to feed my algae eaters "cucumbers" every week?
