the rooster was just a weekend guest lol

I do have 2 turners full of 10 day incubated eggs in my apartment now though. In 12 days, there will be a mad scurry to off load them. i cannot be here to clean poop every few hours or my bedroom reeks. I have some dear byc friends who will take chicks off my hands if i need them to. and my roommate is a patient guy.

I could use a few friends like that!

So... They are still young and it can be hard to tell (and I'm sure I will post again when they are older) but can anyone throw out some ideas about what color my silkie chicks are?

Their bodies range from buffish I silver/grey but all have buff heads. I haven't found any pics that really look like mine.

My wife wouldn't eat them at first, around the 3rd time I just said we're having chicken nuggets for dinner. She ask halfway through if it was Jr. I said yep. She said you need to kill more roosters.

does it depend on the breed of chicken? I butchered two of my roos and my friend said "he must've been a mean little *******!" after eating him...guess he was kind of tough!

Quote: People look at me funny when I tell them we used to raise our own pigs, kept hens for eggs and grew our own veg. I think it's wonderful way to live! I find it sad that people come up to me when I take one of my chicks out (don't ask) and ooh and aah over the "little bird" and ask me what kind of bird it is! And then look shocked when I tell them it's a chicken.

You are so lucky to have had that experience with your grandparents. They taught you something valuable.

Quote: I was waiting for that. We raised a single chick after his mom rejected him (one of our rare bad broody experiences). I was too soft hearted to leave him home alone when we went out, so he went everywhere with us until he was about 4 months old. He's been to a few shops and restaurants, the supermarket, 2 libraries, 3 beaches, Dept of Home Affairs when we renewed our passports (he created quite a stir there when someone mistook his cheeping for a cell phone) and 6 different towns in total. I think he put quite a few people off eating chicken. We had food and water bowls in the car for him and he behaved well during the journeys, except when we took long trips, then he'd get antsy. It was fun though. Walking around shops and shopping mall with a completely straight face and a 3 month old chicken under your arm. Highly recommended if you feel like having a good laugh

That's the roo I trusted my friend to look after when we left and found he rehomed him.
