Just made it to MT home in FL and was a little worked when I saw the temp was reading low. However, I've been home 30 minutes and hear peeping from the eggs so some are internally pipped. Going to bed and took one last check and see that one has externally pipped as well. Hope to have a chick or two in the am!!!!

Morning all. Got woken up early by my phone and to add insult to injury it was bad news. Heide died more than a month ago

That's what I got for paying and trusting our "friends" to take care of my chicken. Lesson learned.

I've read the hatch thread several times and want to make sure about external and internal pip times.

If a chick internally pips (you hear chirping), how long do you wait to assist if you see no external pips? 12? 24 hours? I understood the wait time after external pip but I had eggs last time that I heard internally pipped but didn't make it to external pip. Sitting on my hands this time but just checking.

I wait about 12 hours then I create an artificial pip hole so the chick can get fresh air. I heard they can take up to 24 hours or more, but I don't like taking chances!

Oz, I'm starting to wonder why I trusted this guy and what else he's been hiding from us. The moment I told him we're going back he's stories changed completely. From "all is well on the farm" he went to negativity. It sounds like things went from bad to worse since we left.

He actually said to me, about Heide, "We didn't know you were coming back" So it makes it o.k. that he can break a promise, just because we're not there to catch him out! With friends like those, who needs enemies? Well, needless to say we're not friends any more. And it's sad. I liked them and trusted them enough to leave my boy with them. And trust him to keep an eye on our farm and on MIL. I wonder what's waiting for us there.
