today has been terrible…

right when my parents were about to drive me to the quail place, my mom decided that she hated the fact that i love birds and hatching chicks and that she wasnt going to let me ever hatch chicks again. she said that they were stinky and ruining her life and she started yelling at me that i could never hatch or raise quail or chickens or ducks again

then when i left the room i overhead her talking to my dad and i quote her exact words: "wasnt she just supposed to have those original four birds and no more? Moe, Aqua, Cappa, and Joey? and that coop and brooder of hers are smelly and ruining my house and yard!" and then… the worst part that made me burst out in tears while she said it… she said she was just waiting for my birds to die so she could get rid of them and never have to see chickens again

does she not realize i love those birds like family and ive never enjoyed something so much as i enjoy watching those little embryos grow into adorable chicks? i cant believe she said that… i am still crying. i spend hours with my birds every day loving them and now i realize my mom is just waiting for them to die

Awww... Maybe your Mom was just having "a day" and doesn't feel as strongly about them as she was saying. I can say some pretty mean things too, if I'm having a really bad day. Hopefully, she will realize how important they are to you, and that she should be Thanking God that you're into chickens instead of the million other terrible things you could be into. My mom doesn't like my chickens either, and won't eat any of the eggs, or anything I make with the eggs.

Good thing I'm 38, and it's my house, my chickens. You will move out one day, and have as many coops, chickens, and incubators as you want. That's the upside. Hugs

8 : ( with the plans of keeping 3 or 4 in the layer pen for color. I think I may just put these crested cream legbar hens in the layer cool when they are big enough, I have 2 from Jan hatch and a few in the bator, heck if I get a roo I can keep him in the layer coop and still be able to sell CCL eggs! It still woulda been nice to have olive eggs : (
Ya know I am sure you can find some OE in PA.
I know but I don't want adult birds added to my flock, I am just weird like that. And I don't want to grow out anymore, I thought I had everything set.

Here are some pictures for Sally cause she DOES exsist, haha. Her name is Lucy.

I did not take pictures of her when she first arrived. She was disgusting and the only thing on my mind to was to get her clean!

Here she is right after her bath.

Here she is this morning.

I need a better picture of her legs. They're huge! They are about the size of a half dollar coin!
she is pretty big! nice playhouse she has!! Rapunzel !

I'm sorry Sparky! that's so hard when family makes something you love sad! my daughter feels that way about my dogs!

altho with her I think its more of a "sibling rivalry" she gets jealous of the time I spend with them..

i have an incubation question...trying out a new Bator....can't seem to get it EXACTLY 99.6...It seems to be either 99 or 100...so my question is...is it better to b on the high side or low side for a decent hatch...eggs aren't shipped just from my lil flock.. which as a side note..my Roo, Bubba...may be a butthead sometimes but he Sure does his job!! at the 7 day candle, all 19 eggs were veining and looking good and the 8 other eggs from him that I've hatched all did GREAT!

I would go 100

Big? haha. Compared to the chickens, yes. Compared to the turkeys, not at all. The guy had 2 age groups, one was half the size of the other. I picked one of the smaller ones. I asked about the bigger ones and he said they weren't ready to butcher yet. They grow their turkeys until they're 40 - 50 pounds! He claimed that he gave a Tom to his brother who kept it alive and it reached 85 pounds! That may be exaggerated a bit, but still, that's huge!

and yes, she's sharing a playhouse with Emmy (the buff orpington) until I deem her healthy and she adjusts to her new life.
