Quote: Thanks Coch, Chicks!!! I figured that was it, but our friend who is keeping them temporarily feeds his all kinds of weird stuff, and I notice that his decrease in prod after he feeds them TONS of cabbage and other things. Is it possible for chickens to get gassy? Usually I see his prod fall after lots of cabbage and bean cakes that he makes for them....hope he is not throwing that to mine

I depend on the sale of my eggs for covering the feed right now......

DH and I are making halupki's (stuffed cabbage) it smells yummy already! I love cabbage! chickens will get the spare ends!!

I had never heard of a halupki in my life until my Dad moved to the Poconos. His wife is a lifetime resident, and boy, can that woman cook. Her halupkis are fabulous. Half of her family works at the Mrs.T's factory too, so for $1.00 a box she got me hooked on Mrs.T's Jalapeno/Cheddar Pierogies deep fried.

Oh God this family and perogies! I stopped making them and buy huge bags now! kids want them as snacks all the time! They are awesome with ketchup! I personally love the mashtatoes and sauerkraut homemade ones, but kids wont eat them!

I just made the BESTEST Banana bread in the entire WORLD! YES I did! and so easy too!

Ingredients
BEAT:
½ cup butter, softened (stick)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup white sugar
½ cup brown sugar (plus some for tops)
Add:
2 eggs
4 well-ripened bananas
½ cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add:
2 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cinamin
½ teaspoon salt

grease 2 large loaf pans add batter 3/4 full
GENEROUSLY top with brown sugar

Bake 325 for about an hour for large loafs or 20 minutes for those 6" mini pans, when pick comes out clean they are done, after I see tops getting brown I layed foil loose over the top to keep from browning too much.

YUMMY sweetness!! I have tried so many and this one ROCKS IT!

Survived the night. It was a rough night for the mid west. I spent the last 2 days cleaning out the garage so I could get my car in. I was prepared except for the whole where will we hide thing. Every spring I swear we are going to get a storm shelter. I have been in Oklahoma for 13 years and am originally from Texas. So I have seen a few storms. Prayers for the people of Shawnee, OK where they were hit pretty hard.

I am off to try and break a broody or give her something besides golf balls...
What happened? Did you guys get a big storm or something? I really should watch the news sometimes. I have no idea what's going on in the rest of the world!

Give her some eggs :)

ok all you wacky hatchers-I figure this is a good place to ask this question-
What kind of chicken is the best layer and consumes the least food?
And, If you move chickens to a new coop is it normal for them to slow down on laying ?
I moved the LFs maybe 10 days ago, and now their production has slowed considerably-
I couldn't fill my egg order for this week

Leghorns. They eat very little compared to most and they lay very well. Nice size eggs too.
Yes, changes and moves are stressful for chickens and stress could slow down or stop them laying for awhile.

I just hatched a cracked one! Harmony cracked one of chads (or several of chads) and they all made it, there were chips, cracks all all sorta places on the eggs, but she did the dropping around day 15 so they were far enough along to be ok, I kept humidity a tad higher though.
That's great! Did you seal the cracks? How much higher did you keep the humidity?

Yesterday was day 7 and I candled! 12 out of 14 were developing!!! I even saw movement in a few!!!

I removed the two clears and cracked them open. One was scrambled from shipping and the other was a very early death.
