Quote: Yea. They were chillin in the hen house with the others keeping out of the rain. Looked like they belonged. I put out all the Buff Orpingtons except for a couple little ones. I may put out the wyandottes Im going to keep this afternoon. Never know.
The last time I put out younger ones with the older ones, one of my hens (little one) ended up losing a leg. I need to put my older batch of youngins in with the older banties, but now am scared to do so. Could they go in with 2 hens and 2 roos?
When I was growing up. the chicks ran with the older hens. I currently have 3-3 day old chicks and a hen with all the rest also. I took the Wyandottes and put them with other little ones. Chickens pick on each other. Its just thier nature.
Maybe I'll just put on my big girl panties and throw them in......Hey, how's your weather? I hope not getting bad, just saw there is a tornado north of Texarkana?

I really had trouble sleeping last night. The text that arrived after I was in bed finished the chances of getting rest.

I cannot believe how eggcited I was over the little pullet egg in our nest box yesterday.

I started my getting the flock out of here thread on Christmas day. All I wanted originally was some eggs for breakfast and a decent size chicken to eat.

ALmost 50,000 view later, the thread and adventure have taken a a life of their own. I have seen the opportunities for Bernie and his family to make some decent money, and I am doing something that will better the small part of the world I live in.
LOL awwwwww Awesome extremely Awesome!

Um... for bantam eggs do we, I.. ME do I lock down a day early? Today is day 17.

Hope everybody fared well with the weather last night. We had a few trees down, but they were ones that died last year with the drought so they were weak rooted. Other than that everybody is ok.

I couldn't read about the OK children last night. I'm an emotional wreck these days anyway and just the first sentence sent me into tears. said my prayers and just went to bed. I guess we probably all hugged our kids tighter...

I "should" be expecting baby bunnies today or tomorrow providing the storm didn't scare her half to death.
I do day 18 for all chicken eggs, I may sneak a candle or two in the day before just to make sure no internals! If you see internal pips lockumdown!

Quote: I know right! Good thing I have turned the rabbit hutch into quail pens! four freeloaders so far not an egg! but I have 12+ in the bator to hatch this weekend and one loner hatchling.

Some things some don't know about Cot Quail eggs.....

4-5 quail eggs to equal a chicken egg. The differences in quail egg nutrition as compared to a chicken egg are many. One 10 gram Coturnix Quail egg has 3 to 4 times the nutrition of a 55 gram chicken egg. It has 13% protein as compared to a chicken egg’s 11%, It has twice the vitamin B2 and vitamin A. Quail eggs also contain three times the amount of vitamin B1 as well. You can also get 5 times the iron and potassium along with being rich in calcium and phosphorus. Furthermore, quail eggs have a good deal of good cholesterol and none of the bad cholesterol. Thanks to an ovamucoid protein contained in Coturnix Quail eggs, they do not cause allergies or diathesis. That same protein is helpful to those suffering from allergy symptoms and, in fact, there are allergy drugs derived from this same protein.http://www.survivalblog.com/2012/06...tle-homestead-bird-by-bigdtc-in-maryland.html
This is awesome info- hhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm- don't tell dh he may be building a quail pen......I wonder if they sell easy....the eggs I mean? or the quail.........
Interesting think about this.....
Most chicks or young chickens go for less than 2 bucks a pop at auction , a quail at 4 weeks old will bring you over $2. FOUR WEEKS! How about that!. (with auctions there is no dealing with strangers coming to the house! one stop and sold) and most auctions will send you the check so you don't have to wait around and you can sell extra egg there as well! They eat little, take little space, little work, awesome eggs, availability to have fun hatching and sell them at market for a good profit to boot. AND THEY TASTE AWESOME and are not the type of birds one becomes best friends with making the eating a tad easier! And a biggun for me is no need to ship out of state! no worry of getting NPIP and keeping it in order to sell hatching eggs across state borders. I am changing my tune to chickens I know, the more I read and speak with others the more I learn right?

REmember when I said I put 6-6 week olds out to play with the bigger ones. Well...................I had to run home and while I was there, I put 18 more out with them.
HA! you needed room in the brooders!!!!

Cot with our first OWN serama baby and a BCM Mutt I kept from the bunch of Chads hatch, it had spraddle leg.
At first the chicks chased the cot around like made because he was phyco running and it freaked them out, now they seem ok together!
