So Sally, Sunday will be day 7 and I'm a little apprehensive about Candleing the eggs. I know mama hens leave the nest etc. and eggs cool a bit. I'm just concerned my incubator will take too long to re-heat/re-humidify. I am assuming I just crack the lid and one at a time candle them. I have 14 eggs in. Paranoia setting in.... (ps - they are in hovabator w/fan & egg turner).
oh Dont be paranoid!! I just like when DH helps me or Harmony, that way its safer and faster! Your fine but use a cool candler! Dont stress, its so freaking cool your gonna freako!!

Rock-did you candle?

Rained here yesterday afternoon. Guess it was fitting for the day. Sunshine and warm today. Kinda feels surreal that life just goes on. Finishing up the duck pen today and hopefully will get them moved in and settled this afternoon. Out of town for a Christmas celebration next weekend and need to ask a neighbor to pick up eggs for us. I would hate for someone to become an egg eater while I was out of town.

400

Look! My chickens laid their first eggs 2 days ago! They're only 5 months old, and he vent even molted yet! I was still feeding them pullet food, but I guess I should switch to laying hen!

Good morning! Nope... I'm going to candle tonight. (day 6). When I went to bed last night around 11:00 my humidity was 40% and when I woke up at 7:00am it was 15%. At some point during the night my water ran out. Yikes! It is now back at 40% after added a little more than warm water. Do you think they're going to be ok? Should I wait now to candle until tomorrow. I've been trying to mess with the incubator as little as possible and thought I still had about a day before adding more water. Ugh!

many people run dry hatching, a drop to 17% may have been healthy. good luck

Wow Sparky! Those eggs look huge! Congrats! 3Dchicken, can't wait for updates. Thanks Ozexpat... My fingers are crossed. I hope I won't always fuss over the hatching process. I keep asking myself, are they fertalized, (will candle tonight), will they all make it, which ones will... Which won't... Should I moved them to the homemade Hatcher day 18...or just use my purchased incubator for hatching, should I install a fan in the homemade now or wait until next hatch, average temperature in the homemade still air 101-102?, is it worth the risk?, would my hatch rate be higher leaving them in the store bought??? Ugh!!! I may need to have a glass of wine but after 21 days??? I could form a habit. Lol!
