Calling all eggers from BYC hatchers.. Experimenting in creating purple eggs, so looking for some pure blue egg layers to cross, like I said total experiment but any hatches that are culled from breeding will be donated back for free. Everyone should experience the joy of chicken!!

Don't Croad Langshans lay purple eggs?

wow that thing is old! I would love to see the outside of that thing! sorta looks like a pressure cooker lol! How are you turning? the entire bator tilt? and no fan? so 102 at top of eggs?
I'm hand turning or tilting my cartons at least 3 times a day and in the one pic that is the top it's almost as big as my kitchen table and about as high as a dresser drawer is deep
Here are the Roos and some of the hens I would love to know what the 2 black with brown hens are they are pure got them from murry mcmurry

Congrats on the hatch, Doug. Sorry about your chicks and clothing. I pray what you are doing now will stop whatever is happening to your fluffybutts!

Just a FYI for those who are unsure about which to use, Corid or Sulmet:

Sulmet only treats 2 of the 9 types of cocci that chickens can get. Corid treats all 9 types. Also Sulmet is very hard on the bird's system. It contains sulfamethazine. Sulfadimethoxine is much safer and kills coccidia that Amprolium won't.

Speaking of purple eggs, how very appropriate that I join this thread now :) Thank you for the invite SallySunshine. I have read through hundreds of pages here, but admittedly not all of them. Hello everyone!!

Before I go further I'll say that for the last week I have been having issues uploading pictures or I would put them up. I know others on my local forum are having the same issue.

So, I just received some very special eggs in the mail (15 eggs). They are in fact Croad Langshans. I already have a breeding trio and have hatched their chicks out successfully. They are such stunning birds I fell in love and I wanted another line to add to my flock. I found a breeder of Croads from the Beauford line. These are tall, huge, and beautiful and they still lay eggs with the plum bloom. Most Langshan's don't lay the plum bloom anymore, including mine. Anyway, the eggs range from light with rose bloom to darker eggs with a very purplish look to them. They are Beautiful. They arrived well packed in breathable foam with holes cut in the bottom pad and a foam top. I liked how this kept them upright and breathing. No bubble wrap and tape necessary. The chicks should be both black and blue large fowl Langshans.

I'll be candling them tonight to see how the air cells look.

They are resting right now. I am so excited about these eggs!!! Here is where I purchased the eggs. https://www.facebook.com/Featherhillfancyfowls . You can see pictures of her gorgeous Croads with that link. There are some pictures of the eggs as well, but they look much better in person.

I would love to share the incubation and hatch with you all and keep up with your adventures as well.

Well dang. My vet doesnt agree with that. She says Corid isnt as good as Sulmet. Did you say that right. You said corid kills all 9 types but then said Sulfadimethoxine kills coccidia that amprolium wont.

Hi Lisa,

Welcome, and excited to know how your hatch comes out! I am very interested in this breed for my egg basket. Does feed or ph have anything to do with the bloom color?
